L30/M20

I am trying to determine if this is a L30/M20 car. This was my cousins car and has been parked since 1992, his son has decided to sell it. I get most of the decoding. It still has 327(casting 3903352) 4 speed 12 bolt(unable to get stamping yet) with radius rod(rod missing). Car has remote side mirror,fold down rear seat and rear defog.

Is the transmission original? If so what is it. The L30/M20 would have had a Saginaw transmission and an SS car would have received a Muncie transmission. Where does the speedometer cable go through the firewall?

I have since read post to educate me to that and will check as soon as I can!!! As far as I know it original 4 speed......I will check though. Thanks for the heads up!!

What's the stamping on the front engine pad?

The front engine stamping has be machined off back in the late 70's or early 80's. Guess the machinist didn't care about keeping the stamping or re-stamping. I can't remember if my cousin had the engine rebuilt or it had already been done when he bought this car. I am trying to get to look at the car again and get the stamping off the transmission and rear end. Is there any way to tell about this car just from the VIN and cowl tags??

A Saginaw and the speedo cable location along with a 12 bolt differential point to an L30/M20.
The Block casting # is for a '67 327, but was used for both 210 and 275 hp engines as you know.
Any way the Engine Application suffix code survived machining ?... hints of an MK would confirm the 275hp Engine.
The Engine build and application suffix are much larger than the VIN Stampings - maybe you can make something out.
May need the acid treatment to potentially recover some info.

Sorry... The proper Application suffix code can also be ML... MK or ML based on "Smog Equipment"

I am going to look at car again this Saturday. I am going to try to get the numbers off the transmission and the rear end housing. I don't believe the engine pad stampings survived, but will try the acid treatment. Can't remember exactly how that works, never done it before. Which type of acid do you use for that??
