« on: August 06, 2017, 05:28:00 AM »
Just noticed the 2018 HTA schedule which includes Long Beach - 5 races in total
including St. Jovite and RA -  hmm.

Typically, "IF" you can attend only ONE (1) event from the above offerings, & I understand this can be very subjective. Which would be a no brainer to attend, even considering all the associated logistics for a max participants  viewing, Most cars for the buck. Even if the venue might be #2, but I would rather see the most iron rather than the most technical track,,,

Jim,

My experience is that you will get the most "bang for your buck" at Monterey.  They
traditionally have the largest HTA grid. There are some 400+ other vintage race cars in the
paddock to look at.  Lots of other car stuff that weekend - Pebble Beach, auctions etc.

However,  you will spend lots of bucks - hotels and motels jack up their rates x 3 and you
will need to book them early.  Might have to go to Gilroy or other surrounding towns.

You will not regret Monterey if it is in your bucket!  I have been 9 times since 85!

Thanks for the feedback. I was very disappointed in the PNW turnout this year. & I will be committing to venturing south for the action. (2018) with some older friends who were in the stands at Kent in the sixties, I am a big fan of Go Go Green #7, being a PNW'er. & The 68Z project has me jazzed about racing (Spectator) of a left & right nature as opposed to the straights ,,,,,

Attached Tony's car in 2007 or 2009?

Thanks for the update Robert, the July 13th. weekend at St.Jovite looks interesting to me. Tremblant was one of my favorite tracks and it might be worth a revisit..... I seem to remember that you ran quite well there back in the day and except for some shifter issues in 1971 you would have had a solid finish...

Al, not a shifter problem, but a flat tire at the far end of the track.  Had to slowly drive back to the
pits.  Had qualified 11th after some of the hotshoes  didn't get out on the track in time due to some rain
at the end of the session.

Yes, a good place to revisit.  Was a great track to drive. One more visit?

Sorry, I seem to remember working on the shifter but that must have been in a subsequent race, also I believe that was the year of the big crash that took out the entire Ford team and ended up costing them the championship.

Al, I think the big crash-up happened in 69.  I did not race there till 70.  I remember either
a gas or exhaust leak that year and was feeling very ill by the end of the race - just made it to
the finish.

Yes you are correct  69 was the year of the big wreck, I was at the track that weekend hanging out with Jowett's guys and it was a very exciting race......... The other thing that I remember was the local tech inspectors had made up templates for all the cars but the SCCA guys would not let them fit them on any of the factory cars..... I wonder why ???
