7029215 date decode
« on: April 09, 2017, 04:42:44 AM »
Can anyone decode this date for me? It's on the base plate of a 69 Rochester qjet 7029215.

Thanks.

I guess that's your way of saying Google it? I already went to all three of those. The markings don't follow the pattern. The closest I could find is this paragraph. If you can decipher it, you're a better man than me which is why I'm asking for help.

The date code may be in a number of areas. Those carburetors that were originally tagged (see above paragraph) will have a 2-character date code stamped into the tag. Most 1968 and some very early production 1969 original carburetors will have a 4-digit date code stamped on the drivers' side of the throttle body (lower casting) just to the front of the rear mounting hole. Later 1969 quadrajets through 1974 will have the date code (either a 2-character code if produced by Carter, or a 4-digit code if produced by Rochester) stamped on the driver’s side of the bowl (center section) in front of, behind, or under the part number. The 2-character codes will be in the format “my” where “m” is a letter designating the month of production (A=January, B=February, etc.), and the “y” is the last digit in the year. Example A9 would represent January 1969. The 4-digit code is in the format “jjjy” where the “jjj” is the Julian (sequential number) day of the year and the “y” is the last digit in the year. Example 1 – 0018 is January 1 1968 (001 the first day of the year). Example 2 – 3668 is December 31 1968 (366 the last day of a “leap” year).

Here's another pic. No date code by the number stamp. This is an assembly line carb.

I've seen a few (VERY few) other carbs stamped like that (see the 27G7 stamp below), but I don't think they're date codes. At least nothing that would make sense. Yours appears to be stamped 35C2 is that correct? Or is it 35G2? Either way, if it IS a date code, the format isn't something in the "normal" GM formatting structure.

Basically that paragraph states that there are two different formats used in 1969 and two difference locations. (Another if yours really is a date stamp):

A letter/number format stamped on the body (see the L9 - December, 1969 - stamp below), a 4 digit Julian date stamped on the body (see the 0953 - 95th day of 1973, a service replacement from 1973 - stamp below), and a 4 digit Julian date stamped on the driver side of the base plate toward the rear (see the 2068 - 206th day of 1968 -
 stamp below).

Thanks a lot Ed. I think you nailed it. The number I showed "might" be a date code, but not the one generally used for the carb. I found a few more pics that helped put the pieces together. The number I posted is 35 G 2. The 35th week is the 4th week of August which is also "G." 2 is probably 2nd shift. This is just a guess on my part for what the 35 G 2 is.

This first pic shows the later QJet with the date just under the carb # on the body. If you look at the base of the hand model's thumb in the pic, you can see a code like the first pic I posted.

The second pic shows the date code on the early QJets for 69 apparently. This example is of an original 7029215. It doesn't look like there is that other code near the mounting hole though.

The third pic is the same carb and it shows the carb number without the date near it.

The fourth and final pic is of a 7029201 carb I have dated 3458. It kind of punches a hole in what I've been seeing about the early/late locations and time frames though. It's Dec 11, 68 and the date is on the carb body. There must be some exceptions.

No, like you said, the 35th week would be August, but "G" is July so that doesn't fit. Neither does the shift since the example I posted above is 7 and there aren't 7 shifts in a day!

Good point! I should have know G was July. My 396 is July and my Camaro's build date is August... Time for some coffee!

I was researching Quadrajet stampings and information to assist in knowing what one is looking at and interesting as the carb off sons 69 L34 Nova is marked very similar with the carb I.D 7029215 EH (1969 chevrolet manual trans) and stamping on left rear base plate of 35 C. i'm wondering if carb Hawk was showing is actually a C and not G? Reason, it could be his other stamping below the  035 C gives the appearance of a G, but that is just a what if type question.
Note under our 035 C there appears to be a "T" stamped 90 degrees to the left underneath. NCRS newest 68'69 Judging manual notes many quadrajets have a "C" on the right rear base plate which sons carb has.
Interesting to note his carb appears to never been taking apart (was off car for 40 years) and there is NO date code stamping other than the 035 C, whatever that was used to quantify.

Hi Chick. Nice to see another 215 carb like mine. It absolutely could be a "C". I'll try to get out and take a better look and pic of the carb later today.

I just sent out a 7029200 EE carb this morning. When it gets to where it’s going I will ask them to check for a date code at the location in question.

Sorry for the delay in posting the pics I promised. The pics I took that day weren't very clear. Now something is up with the site for me. It keeps timing out etc. Attempt three... I had to switch to my phone to post initially, but I can now modify using my laptop. The site also kept popping me into a new thread post instead of posting what I wanted... Seems like the Gremlins are only on CRG for me. And I don't mean the AMC kind... ;-)
These pics are a higher resolution and taken with a much better camera phone than the one I had before.
One last thing. Notice the red "R" stamped on my carb. We had a big discussion about it on camaros.net. It's been seen on other original carbs, but nobody could definitively say what it was.
