D55 Console with U17 Gauge Package (pic heavy)
« on: January 11, 2017, 09:07:39 PM »
I know questions come up pretty often about this or that with regards to the center console and U17 cluster. I was just organizing some of my pictures and thought how handy a thread detailing them could be. The pictures I'm posting are of my all OE born with set up from my 69 SS396. Obviously these are in all stages from never touched to when I cleaned them up.
And for the wise guys… Yes, they work perfectly now that they’re back in my car.
For anyone that needs it, here you go:

Hawk, does your low fuel light work? Mine stopped working and I'm a little reluctant to tear it apart.

To be honest with you, I've never let my fuel get low enough to check it. Not a bad idea though to see if it's reliable. I'll post up if I do it some time.

You can bench or semi bench test your LFW Module. You need a potentiometer capable of zero to 100 Ohm's, and if out of the vehicle a test light to act as the FUEL warning light. (battery operated test light is easier)

When triggered by low Ohm's the module drops ground onto the yellow lead so the bulb which always has power, then has a path to light up.

To test the LFW Module in place by dialing down to less than 10 Ohms (eighth of a tank.) if there is no ground on the yellow wire at that point lower toward zero and see if you get the ground on the yellow activating the light. Make sure you have power on the bulb lead and the bulb is in good order as well.

<<You need a potentiometer capable of zero to 100 Ohm's >>

I made this tool to calibrate Corvette fuel gauges - it's a 0-100 ohm Radio Shack variable potentiometer with a pair of clip leads soldered to it; I mark the potentiometer shaft and body from readings on a VOM, then compare gauge needle deflection at several points along its variable resistance curve.  :)
