Less than a month old..  Hard to see but the antenna is straight up.
I kind of figured... I didn't realize your Dad added the spoiler. Mine too...

Also Ed; you and I both know that there are errors in the AIM..

Agreed. Either the AIM is wrong (which wouldn't surprise me) or all these cars are wrong (which WOULD surprise me)!!

I just checked my car and I have no reinforcement plate, but then again, I don't have U73 either so that might make a difference. But the AIM doesn't show any kind of plate installed other than the ground tab.

How tall is the antenna when it pulled out all the way? Is it the same antenna that is use for all of the 67 Chevrolet car line. I just bought a Nos rear mount one and just want to make sure it is correct.

Both my '67 AM antenna's measured out to 47" total length and 46" from tip to the start of the bottom threads. Attached are some images of the shape.

If it's NOS there will be a part number for the kit. What's that number?

My '67's antenna location is like Darrells '68. I looked at my 67 convertible rear antenna hole and even though the quarter was replaced in the 80's the hole cutout was based on the original location. I measured approximately 15 1/4" from the hole center to the edge of the quarter. From the center of the hole to the front side of the gutter area almost 6". Could the hole have been moved up in later model years if the car was ordered with the spoiler?
Attached are some pictures taken to show the pitch (looks almost straight up) and the inboard lean (hard to see in the picture) and also the original base mount to show the rise.

Mike

PS. that black circle mark by the base is my reminder to wetsand a minor spec out of the clear coat  :D

Great pics Mike..  And no rear antenna on spoiler cars.  It automatically put it on the fender.

You can't get too close to the "gutter" or you'll get into the plate under the quarter panel. It's just past that plate far enough to fit the ground plate under the antenna as well. The green 68 looks correct to me. That is where mine is as well.

Darrell,

Just curious the distance is between the antenna base center and the edge of the rear quarter on the Green Machine.

The part number is 986872 the antenna looks correct, all the hardware looks correct however there are some extra parts in the kit that are for other 67 Chevrolet (fullsize car line applications) my car has the factory hole drilled for the rear antenna and its in the same spot as the green 68.

Yes, the 986872 is for 1967 full size cars (15000 and 16000 series except station wagons), but I would imagine most of the parts will interchange.

I can't take a look at this for details right now, car is tucked away for the winter.

Also can't guarantee it is original.  Could be it was added based on the AIM drawing.

I will try to check closer in a month or so.
