68 wheel rim date codes
« on: January 10, 2007, 02:47:51 PM »
Hi, just wanted to confirm the rim codes I have. On one side of the valve stem they are stamped K1 with a 7 under the K1, then 11. The other side of the stem is stamped 30 XG.
Would this be November 30 67? This would match well with my car's build code 12C?
The 'XG' I know about, but whats the 'K1' stamping?

Thanks for the info. Did I get the date code right - Nov 30th 1967?

Yes, November 30, 1967. I'm collecting a set of these for my 01C car. That is the only XG date I've seen in 1967/early 68. I'm still looking for two! Is your car from Norwood?

Yep, it's a Norwood unit. Thats interesting that you say it's the only date code that you have seen for 68 XG rims. Wouldn't they have punched out a heap of these over a period of time?

It's the only early date I've seen. I have seen other later 68 and 69 dates. There must be some dated earlier than November 67, I just haven't seen them.

Any way to tell what original wheels were on a car? Full or dog dish, or Rally wheels? I want mine to be correct but I have no other info but the cowl tag?

I read and replied to your other post about original owner, as well...

Probably cannot say definitively about wheels without original documentation, but if you've got a L30/M20 that is more or less close to original, you can work out a "defendable" answer in your mind.  Is your car originally heavily optioned?  You should be able to tell from a 67 cowl tag.  Post your VIN and cowl tag under Decoding...

If it is a 67 and has drum brakes it would have come with steel wheels.  If it has disc brakes, I believe it would have come with 14 X 5 rallies coded DA.
