1969 Camaro 396/375 tach issue

Hi Guys!  Have a problem with my "tach" on my 69 Camaro big block.  Doesen't go past 800 RPM.    Anyone have any ideas on to what might have caused this guage to go south on me.  Any advice will be helpful.  Thanks for listening..........Don

Original one? Have you checked the connections well? It's probably something internal. If it were me, I'd open it up and carefully R&R it like it was an antique clock. Chances are there's some dust caked on a gear or two with some old oil.

Aren't all the 69 Camaro tachs 'electronic'??  if so, there's not going to be an 'gears'...  If it's like my Z28 tach, it's electronic, with a VERY simple tiny little integrated circuit to drive it.. and a D'arsonval type of needle movement.  Most gauge restorers will tell you that they are 'not repairable'... but maybe you can find one who will??

I'm sure it's not like a clock with gears and admittedly I haven't had mine apart. Or thankfully I guess... There has to be a gear or something of the sort that can get gummed up though right?

I know they can re-gauss speedometers when they start to lose accuracy, but I'm not sure if tachometers need the same process?

The AC electronic tachs, esp the '69 Camaro tach, are made very cheaply, but I'm not sure that the original movements are still available.  There's some information that's been posted previously on TC which addresses the AC Tach Repair Procedure (still available online), and also some information provided by a TC member who offered repair of, and replacement circuit boards.  I'm not sure if he still offers that, but I've sent him a message to find out...

I accidentally ran into these guys that were local to me to fix my temp gauge.  They rebuilt it with NOS guts, but I'm not sure how much of that they have left.  Come to find out they restore lots of concours stuff and are world renown among that class.  You could call and ask them.
