69 BB washer pump not pumping
« on: September 19, 2016, 09:52:47 PM »
Need some ideas. I can't get my wiper motor to pump fluid. Wipers work fine, when l push the switch in it "clicks", it doesn't come back out so l bought a new switch but it still doesn't pump. Also changed the pump but same results. Like l said wipers work fine& the pump is rotating. I also popped the pump apart and all looks fine inside

Try priming it with a syringe at the reservoir.

make sure your pump "star wheel" isn't stuck like mine was. Taking the pump off the main wiper motor is easy. I think I had to take a cover off the pump and free it (and clean it) and after that  it was good. Seems the pump on mine was activated just as it was binding up, and stopped the wipers from working as well, so I was thinking I needed a whole assy but lucked out.

I have already primed the lines, the star is spinning. That's what makes the pump lever go up and down

Chances are good that the solenoid in the pump is either not activating (which engages the pump via the "ratchet" mechanism inside the pump housing), or the activation plunger is cracked and/or broken (it's nylon, I've seen NOS units with this thing broken from age). The star wheel runs with the motor when the wipers are on, current to the solenoid engages the pump, so get out the volt/ohmmeter and check for an open circuit in the solenoid coil, and if you have voltage to the coil when the switch is energized. Could be something as simple as the connector, broken wire, bad coil. Check the poppet valves in the plate, and also the condition of the piston and seals.
