3 groove crankshaft pully
« on: January 06, 2007, 04:40:58 PM »
I'm setting up power steering on my 68 SS/RS 350.  No smog pump or A/C.   I have everything I need except a  3 groove crankshaft pully.  I don't see one in any of the repop catalogs.  I have an old '66 327 sitting in my garage that has a 2-piece 3 groove crankshaft pully on it.  Can someone tell me if this would work?  Was the original 3 groove pully on a 68 350 a one peice or two peice design?  Thanks.

Don't know how much I can help but will try.  First, what is the diameter of the 66 327 pulley?  Are there any numbers stamped into it?

Thanks Steve - This might not be exact because my '66 327 is crated up in the corner of my garage with lots of stuff on top of  and around it.  But I was able to get in there with my tape measure.  It looks like the 2 inner grooves are  about 7- 1/16" and the outer groove (the second piece) is about 6 - 3/4".   I couldn't see a part number on it because of the above reasons and also it has quite a bit of surface rust on it.  Maybe next weekend I will slide the engine out and try to get the pulley off and clean it up.

You will need 2 pulleys. There is either a single groove or double groove pulley attached to the balancer and a second single groove pulley for the power steering that bolts in front of the first pulley. There is a chart on the CRG website that lists the pulleys that you need. I believe the '66 crank pulleys are the same. You need to check the numbers and fit. AC crank pulleys are larger in diameter and need a smaller diameter water pump pulley so make sure you match up these pulleys.
