Installation Trunk Lid Emblem

The "Camaro" script and the "By Chevrolet" block lettering was different though they look very very similar unless put side by side.

There was a difference in the positioning of the location pins as well.   I'll dig mine out and post pics.

With today's reproduction,  I strongly doubt that each one of these emblems are being reproduced as two separate emblems.  Since they look similar (to most) it's just cost effective to produce one design to use in both places, the header and deck lid.

Another reason to "measure twice" and cut once.  If your using the reproduction emblem of p/n 3916654 and your not shooting for factory correct then use.  But I'd suggest to pick one point on deck lid, then caliper the pins of the new emblem at center-to-center or as stated earlier, use a lipstick of sort and plot on paper. Use as a template.

Or you can find the factory 'Fisher Body" emblems on ebay. I see them all the time from $15 to $25.

Please show me pics if possible. I will try to hunt down a NOS 7752901. On the web (for sale) they say a rear nos emblem is 3916654.

About a yr ago I noticed my Z/28 emblems for the fenders, grille and tail panel had similar p/n markings.  During I found another thread on CRG on these emblems as well (been to busy to search, sorry).  I believe John Z had mentioned in that thread that the deck lid emblem was a Fisher Body installation (reason it's not in the AIM).

John please forgive me if it wasn't you as my memory may of lapsed...ugh !

That drew my attention to mine header and deck lid emblems as I was bagging and tagging.  My emblem p/n's are exactly as those mentioned before and they are original to the car.

NOW...my car is a Norwood 03B date trim tag.  I'm only stating this because anything seemed possible during these builds and I don't want you or anyone else locked in on what I'm saying.

Did GM and Fisher Body install these emblems with different p/n's thru the entire building process ?  Or could there of been a time that one Division could of ran short thus grabbing some from the other ?  Which would put two emblems of the same p/n on the same car....Maybe John Z can chime in.

Looking at the backs, notice the casting of the scripted lettering.  There's more recessed cavity area on the deck lid (bottom pic) vs the header emblem (top pic)

Yes, since the backs are fastened to the car and nobody can see them why produce two different emblems that look virtually the same.  Also, what sells in reproduction parts ?  a GM p/n or a Fisher Body p/n?

Remember, Fisher Body installed and completed most to these shell from the firewall back.  This included trim molding, glass, doors, deck lid, emblems, hardware and some wiring among a few other things.

Dimensionally, these 2 emblems are the same. The reason for 2 part numbers is that the trunk one had sealer (black rubber like)  inside the speed nuts to seal water out of the trunk interior. The header, of course, did not have, nor needed sealer.

Thanks Bentley, you are correct.  I failed to correct that previous statement.  The 2 are identical in dimensions.

well this thread has great information in it! and I am interested in installing the emblem on my car soon and it is a spoiler car, would anyone care to post up the measurements for a spoiler car and kind of complete the thread - with and without spoilers? thanks All!

That would not cause two different emblem part numbers. The emblems would be the same and just the speed nuts would be different.
Even if the supplier put sealer on the emblem, the assembly would different but the emblems would be the same #.
