UO radiator tag
« on: May 05, 2016, 09:16:18 AM »
Hi Crew,
I can't make this UO tag from HBC add up to anything on CRG's cooling system page, or have I missed something?  ???

WOW...the prices on those repro tags sure went up since I had last checked. I have the original UO on my 67 A/T but am looking for an M/T tag. What gets me irked is if someone is going to make a reproduction tag and charge a good sum for it, at least make it the correct shape. I'm speaking for '67 anyhow.
I did locate a guy selling on eBay and he made exact Pontiac tags but he said in order to make one for 67 that he would need about $1000 to tool up for it, then the demand for them to justify the costs. He didn't want to do that unless he had some commitments. That's about where we left off.
But, I may just buy the UN tag from HBC, even though the numeric fonts are not exact, and trim the edges to match an original.

Thanks Bob/Mike for the input,
So it seems that many years later [TC thread is 2012], HBC are still not making them correctly for 68 BB A/T.
3017838 is for a 69 ZE tag.

Rob,

Yes. That is correct. I've been on the hunt for a correct tag since my posting on TC back in 2012 and still haven't found anyone that makes a correct reproduction.

Unbelievable!! Seems HBC have broken the golden rule of 'measure twice - cut once'
I have sent a mail to HBC asking about this anomaly, awaiting an answer.

I got a reply from HBC after informing them of the research at CRG regarding the part number on the 68 UO tag.
Their reply was "Thank you for letting us know that."
So hold tight, maybe we'll see correct [at least in numbers] repro tags for 68 BB A/T soon!!  :)

Another update.
I originally contacted HBC via their own website contact form, but after a couple of days I hadn't had a reply. So then I tried via their ebay page for the UO tag and had a reply back within an hour or two of sending it, but....that reply [as above post] was in fact the reply to my initial query via their website form.
I have just now received another reply to the same query sent from their ebay page and it is quite different to the first reply.
They say: "The tags were reproduced from the original tags I had taken off of cars or radiators They were made right here in Michigan verbatim to the originals"

So....seems we have a stand-off!!  :o

What to make of all this???

Well, I can say for certain and that their '67 tags are not correct in edge shape or numeric fonts. Even the one I have matches what CRG has a picture of. I don't buy their explanation. HBC just doesn't want to change their tooling to make it correct and I'm sure most people, outside of CRG, who buy them either don't care or know.
Think of it....$60 bucks for a stamped piece of thin metal that is not accurate to the trained eye. ARGH!  >:(
Like I said earlier, I will buy their 67 tag and make the edges correct (it looks easy enough).
