Include dealer sticker as part of restoration?

 I have the opportunity to have a copy of the dealer sticker that was on the car when purchased in 1967 from Spielman motors in Brooklyn. It is approximately 1 1/2" tall by 6" wide (about the size of the Chevrolet script emblem) and an example image of it is posted below. It was affixed on the tail panel between the cap and right light housing.
  I'm restoring the car to be as it left the factory but undecided if to include the dealer sticker as it left the showroom.

What would you do?

If it's a 'sticker', it sounds like you could apply it..   and yet remove it anytime later that you decided to...?  OR.. hold onto it and apply it later..  if you decided to..?    I plan to leave the dealer emblem (and tag frame) that was on my car, as I consider it part of the 'originality' of the car that I'm attempting to *preserve* ...

A sticker I would apply to a thin magnet sheet, then you could put it on and take it off the car anytime you feel like it.  The thin magnets cut with scissors and can be trimmed exactly around the decal.

Thanks Gary, you'll find all kinds of uses for it, even just messing around.  A roll is cheap over at Hobby Lobby.  I made a "prius repellent" sticker that I attached to a magnet and on occasion put it next to the tailpipe on my duramax   

Great for decals on your tool box or fridge out in the shop, when you get a new box or something they can be removed and reinstalled.

I have also done this on my vintage license plates. Instead of sticking the sticker to them when in use I just put a magnet on the sticker when I get it, and then put it on the plate when needed. This way you don't get a big stack of stickers on your nice plates, and it looks cleaner, like day 1 when the plates were new. I have also done it with vintage stickers that I don't want to waste.

As far as your sticker Mike. I would make a couple of them. The new cars these magnets work on, very thin paint little clear. It may take a little thicker magnet to have it stick well on your tail panel. I would also have a copy made to go into a binder of all your docs, and rest-o pics.

Great find, wish I could find something from my dealer, License frame , sticker , anything. I was lucky to negotiate the key fob I suppose...

Hi Bud,

  Their address was: Spielman Motor Sales, 220-24 McGuinness Blvd. It closed in 1977 and now a KeyFoods is there. I did some research and learned that dealership had two buildings along McGuinness with one being the main showroom at 220-24 and the other further down on Humboldt St. for new car storage. So it may very well be the one by your grandmother.

 I like the thin magnet idea and may give that a try. I'm going to have several stickers made up because any removal would be destructive.
The more I think on it the more I am leaning towards putting the sticker on and leaving it there.

I have seen them like Skips car on the bumper, and I have seen others in the middle bottom of the rear glass. You may move it around or look for some vintage pics or talk to the guy you are getting the sticker from and see if there were multiple spots where they would put them.

Here is where mine was located, but I've seen them all over the place.... maybe each dealer had a 'certain location' for their ID plate/sticker, but it had to vary a bit from model to model across their new car line.   Mine was located under the LH edge of the trunk lid on the tail pan above the LH tail light...  and I was lucky enough to have the dealer tag frame on my car as well...  I'd have rejected all those if I'd purchased the car from new, but now I'm glad the original owner didn't do that..

The thin magnets work great!    When I bought my car a few years ago , it still had a local used car lot decal on the taillight panal from the early 70,s.   Thought it would be neat to  put it back on after I restored the car, but didn't want to put a sticker on the paint.

I stuck my Dealer Tag on a fridge magnet, and put it on for show.
When I am not showing the car I stick it inside on the trunk lid.
I put mine between the left tail light and the emblem.

I would absolutely stick it on without the magnet.

Just be glad you don't have to mount a big honker like this one on your tail panel. Screwed in originally, it will take a good magnet to hold this one.

I'm glad it was Reed and not Capitol - that one is over 7" in length, same mount.
