Here is another one below, but this one, a 9C4, is described as re manufactured!  This seller is leaving the decision upon the buyer, knowing that it is not authentic.

Yes, he calls it remanufactured and restamped, but he implies that he only restamped the original numbers!! SURE.. yet he also says he 'has other dates available'..  ie. meaning he will stamp another one with whatever date you desire.. UGH..   I sent him an accusatory email as well....

I think it would take several reports to work, maybe 6 to 8 different people.  Then, maybe the alternator, smog pump, and YH rally fakers would get scared and quit!

You get them banned and then they just open another account under a different name. I've seen it happen before.

Are there any other identifiable marking that can help one distinguish a fake from an original? I have my original but the shaft is stuck in the housing (according to the guy doing my engine work) and I've temporarily replaced it with an electronic distributor. In "freshening" my original, what should I do (or avoid doing) to preserve it's authenticity?

He's got a DZ block listed too, with pictures of 2 different stampings, so does that mean he's got 2 for sale, or is it an illustration of his restamping skills? he offers other dates saying he needs to 'thin his trade...." I requested a photo of the VIN stamp. We'll see what he sends

If you can't see factory broach marks, then it's been restamped... Yea, he says he has to 'thin out his trade ins'..  apparently every restamped/fake/counterfeit part he has ..  was a TRADE IN..  he had nothing to do with it and knows nothing.  Smug bastard eh?

You can freshen a real one but don't do any machining. You can tape off the outer radius and bead blast then spin the housing in a lathe and scotch brite the stamping. Bushings and parts  are avail. if needed from Paragon. Just don't use the repop Vac. Diaphrams.

When I had mine blueprinted, the distributor was converted to full mechanical advance and the vacuum can eliminated. I'll probably leave it that way instead of hacking it up more to restore the vacuum advance. Who knew back in the late '70's that it'd be a collectable? Not me...

I registered a complaint with ebay on the seller discussed herein.  Today I received a 'survey form' questioning how I was pleased/happy with their Online Help and Contact area...   what follows is my response to them.
"ebay could provide some *positive* means ot eliminating fraudulent sellers; The fact that I registered a complaint against this seller has NO effect that I can tell.  He has many such ads on ebay regularly, all or almost all his items are fraudulently represented as being *original* parts of a certain PN and code, but they are not.   He machines off the original code (from cheap common parts) and stamps them with the rare numbers.   I believe this is the same seller that has been convicted of at least 3 counts of such practices in the past (and sentenced to 3, 3, and 8 yrs jail time for them.  Sellers who do this continue to do it because 1) they can sell inexpensive parts by representing them as 'rare' parts, 2) all buyers do not know how to recognize the differences, and 3) ebay does nothing about it.  If Ebay were to ban this particular 'name' on ebay, they simply choose another re-register and do it again.  Surely ebay could check such things against their real names/IDs .."

I once listed a 10-meter (amateur) radio on ebay which could be modified to transmit on CB frequencies (mine had not been modified). Ebay pulled my auction and said that the FCC had reported that particular model of radio to be "problematic". Yet at the same time another seller was listing the exact model of the same radio, and to make matters worse, the digital readout in the featured picture was displaying a CB frequency, indicating the mod that was supposedly the "problem"! I filed a claim and got nowhere.  Ebay, sheesh!
