Partial VIN on M20 has swapped digits

My Second question on this 69 X55 car we are decoding (see first thread for the details http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=14175.0)

The VIN is 124379N655195, which matches the partial stamped in the rough cast area by the oil filter. See attached photo.

However, the partial VIN on the date correct M20 is 191651595 . See attached photo.

I've seen some discussion on swapped digits, or a 6 instead of a 9, but the fact that there are two mistakes causes concern.

First, the 1 instead of the N. As far as I understand the same gang holder was used to stamp the engine and trans at the same time. Any possible explanation for this discrepancy?

Second, the "651595" instead of "655195," could that be a swap between the 1 and the 5?

IMO I think it is original to your car.
My thinking for this is, the re-stamp guys aren't going to make that big of an error , and it seems more likely on a fast moving line that a GM employee mad the mistake and then just moved on to the next one.

The font of the stamp looks right as well.

Third digit being a 1 - usually means it is from the Oshawa assembly plant (Canada). No Camaros were assembled there.

Thanks for the thoughts, and for reminding me of "1" being a plant option.

One other bit of information, the muncie ID tag reads 3950356 (pictured) which I understand means a 69 M20 for Chevelle or Camaro with 3.07 or 3.31 rear axle.

If this is true, then one might think the M20 could've been in a Chevelle assembled in Oshawa. However, from what I can tell those sequence numbers started at 300001, and with production numbers in Oshawa only reaching 34,765 (per http://chevellestuff.net/1969/plant_prod_no.htm), that wouldn't explain the "191651595" partial.

Is the pictured muncie ID tag limited to Chevelles and Camaros, or do I need to be looking at other cars assembled in Oshawa in 1969 that might have reached a "651595" sequence number?  Thanks   -Kurt H.

It might help if you made the file size smaller by reducing the size of the image, and not reducing the quality of the image.  Pics are a bit fuzzy.

I'm pretty sure sure the trans is original.
But that VIN is really a mess.

The 3950356 tag number was used in Corvettes, Novas, Camaros, Chevelles (maybe others) according to my Muncie data base...

Muncie M-20 bolt style shift shafts, passenger side speedo tail housing, with large 8 tooth plastic speedo drive gear...
