Delivered my car to the body shop on Friday. Wish me luck. Or maybe wish the paint shop luck with me.

The grill that came off the car was silver cast painted black, which would be the correct color for an SS. I've read in a prior thread that this wouldn't have happened from the factory. The grill has broken tabs and several major cracks, I don't know if it has any value in repairing. And unless I can prove it was actually original to the car - which would be contrary to the "black cast grill for an SS" argument, I don't think I would want to save it. I have an NOS black one that I bought 10 years ago.
The SS emblem looks original and factory applied. The only nut marks I see are nuts going on. If the grill is painted black under the emblem, is this worth a discussion or is a gray cast grill painted black for an SS by the factory too absurd? I'm just asking before I do anything further, is there anything I should be looking at on this grill?
Thanks - Andy

Does the bright chrome come off the front of the grill when painting the grill surround body color? If so, any suggestions on how to get it off? My NOS grill came with the chrome already attached.

Thanks - Andy

Nope, the bright trim doesn't come off (not easily, anyway) - it's pressed on with an interference fit; it came to the plant that way, and they never touched it.

Thanks John! As far as the argent grill painted black, I'm going to believe that just came off another car and no reason to try and save it as an original.
