Just wondering how close to build date could the starter be dated? Car is 04C

From earlier discussions (which you can probably find by searching?)... it was stated that the starter must be dated prior to car production date, but can be fairly close as it was one of the items installed late.   The starter date could be later than the engine date...

Is it possible a Pontiac starter was used from factory? My car has the right date starter but it's a Pontiac #

I don't know anything about Pontiac starter configurations.
Pontiac parts had been added to the mix at Norwood in April.

After this number of years (45+), it's common for rebuilders to ignore the stamped numbers/dates, and simply build the starters into the configurations they need to sell... thus it's possible that the Pontiac case has been used to configure a Chevrolet Starter (ie. with Chevrolet nosepiece, etc)..

Well l restored it and it's the one l will be using so hopefully it's correct! Other than the stamped numbers it's the same.

I had a rebuilder make "the strogest starter he could" fo a BBC. he used a 455 starter with a chevy nose. 25 plus years and still going, I have never suffered from "hot starter syndrome" again.
