1969 rear antenna and spoiler - here's the rub...

I believe that my Nov 68 build SS350 was originally spoilerless. It has a spoiler now, and not the short one that would be found on an early build 69, so this is an obvious non-original addition. But I read in a prior post that the trunk lid would not stay open on an original spoilerless car when a spoiler was added, so it made me look closer at the torsion rods. They appear the same which supports spoilerless, but my lid does stay open. Agree this lid should not have a short spoiler? Honestly I've never climbed in a survivor trunk, so I don't know what I'm looking at.

So on to the real question, the fun details. I'm certain this is an original rear antenna car, and my non-original wide spoiler rubs it when I open the lid. Do any members have a late 69 (original wide spoiler) with rear antenna that rubs? Just my curiosity.

Mine wasn't a D80 originally either, but the trunk works perfectly with the spoiler on it. No rear antenna. If I'm not mistaken, you could not order a rear antenna on a D80 optioned car.

I have a short spoiler on my 02D built car but I don't hade the D80-option so I guess the spoiler was added later.....?
The trunk works perfectly and easily stays open with the spoiler on...

AIM U73 states antenna should lean inboard approximately 4deg when viewed from the rear. Also it appears my antenna is mounted further aft than the AIM diagram, but I don't know how to read the position numbers in the AIM. How does this look compared to other 1969 U73 optioned member cars?

I imagine years of pushing the antenna to the side when opening the add-on D80 spoilered lid have put some bend into the antenna. But 4deg inboard is a drastic difference. Can I see someone's "unmangled" U73?

Thanks Dave. I guess I'm not very good at searching. My antenna is .5 inch aft of the one pictured, so 14.5 inch from the rear edge of quarter. Those pictures do show the antenna leaning inboard. I'll work on that whenever I remove the spoiler.

I have some questions about capacitors, but I better spend some more time searching first.

All RF hinge pillars were pre-punched for an antenna lead. The hole was plugged on cars built without a radio or with a rear antenna.

Let me revive this thread since at least 2 of you are sporting short spoilers. My car is (also) an 02D, non-D80. But I like the cowl-hood / spoiler look, so I'm setting my car up that way. In imitation of the dealer-installed spoiler, I've painted the rear edge of the decklid. Question: I've got both types (length) of spoiler, so which was most-likely to have been installed?  What are your thoughts or opinions? Anybody?

I know of a couple of 02D COPO's with narrow spoilers from the factory, I also know of a bunch of Yenko's built in 01B January with Wide Spoilers...
The wide one will not be questioned, the narrow you may have some tell you it is wrong.

It's not that the lid will stay open once you have added a spoiler-they all will stay fully open with help, but when you turn the key the added spoiler lids WILL NOT open. It will pop unlocked but will not open all they way by its self. Without a spoiler as soon as you turn the key the lid will pop AND open all the way on it's own.
