Dealer memorabilia - what do you have?

That's cooler than a mirror pouch or yardstick! These days its very common for a dealer to put plate frames and dealer stickers on the back of the cars they sell. Did many do the dealer stickers in the 60's? What else is there, other than matchbooks?

My '69 Z28 has the original metal tag frame with dealer info (similar to the one posted by ZLP), as well as a metal plate applique applied to the back of the car identifying the original dealer.

PS.  When I purchased 'new vehicles' by ordering them in '69 and '73 and '77, I requested the dealer NOT to install their stickers and appliques to the car upon arrival and prep for delivery.  I'm sure other buyers did the same thing to eliminate the dealer advertising on their new purchases..

Your license  plate and frame look nice. A little more polished than what they were originally. Are you going to go back and fill in the background?

Those parts(?).. items?   are the worst things 'condition wise' on my car, except for perhaps the drives seat which is quite worn, but then the manufacturers of such advertising items do not receive the same engineering and manufacturing attention as GM bestows on it's automobile parts..     I'd like to use them but make them look better.  They are 'pitted' (the only items on my car which are), and the black paint is mostly gone.  I'd like to get them redone to remove the pits and rechromed and repaint the black...  I might do that some day..

The usual items from our dealers in north Alabama from the 50's to the 70's were yard sticks, leather folding key fobs with snap, ice scrapers, dealer front tags, fountain pencils, metal thermometers, calendars, match books, ash trays.  I don't think I have ever seen a rear tag frame from the local area!  Dealer chrome metal name plates installed on rear were common, but they have disappeared from earth.

Not sure if that was directed at me, but if so.....yes, as stated in the post with the picture, I plan to infill around the letters after they were rechromed, but not sure about the gloss levels. Also recalled that the infill was originally black, but have seen a so-called survivor pair of frames that appears to be blue. Not sure which way to go.

There was a thread a couple years ago here that had a lot of dealer memorabilia that was hoping it would be kept going to assist those doing searches trying to find stuff. Since Ammon R. Smith was a huge dealer and associated with Dave Strickler and Bill Jenkins there are many types of items that can be accumulated, like tubes of ping pong balls.

They are both from the same year, and same manufacturer (Robert W Brown Co, Downey Calif.). I have seen some pairs with both frames the same, and other pairs like these with one of each style. I don't think the dealer cared which went on the car, as long as it gave their dealership publicity!

I bought my 67 RS/SS from the original owner in 1984. It was sold new at Village Chevrolet in Queens Village, NY. This was a very well known hi performance dealer in the 60's and 70's. Jerry's survivor 67 Z was also sold there. When talking with Bob, the orig owner, during the restoration of the car, I asked him what happened to the Village emblem usually mounted on the rear body panel. He said that he told the salesman "If you put that emblem on the back of the car, you are either paying me for advertising for you, or I'm not taking the car!"

There is a ton of Dealer Memorabilia out there. You need to start with a Chevrolet Merchandising cata log for your specific year to get the basics. Some dealers ordered a lot, others little to none. I have been collecting this stuff for years and have started showing some of it in last few years in places like SLS Carlisle and MCACN. I filled a entire banquet room at the NOCC show a few years back. People love this stuff. One of the neatest oddball items I have is a package of Marigold seeds from Chevrolet 1968!

Interesting, I was told that a few years ago, but couldn't find any verification. Also couldn't determine which was front and rear. In the photo above, I had put the rear plate with the frame that had the recesses at the top, which I thought allowed slightly easier access to change the year stickers.....
