67 OIL PRESSURE LINE LOCATION
« on: November 26, 2006, 05:26:09 PM »
Im asking if anyone knows where exactly the oil pressure line goes thru the firewall? I think the hole my car has is right but just want to make sure, they pushed it thru the speed cable washer and there is a hole with nothing going thru and I think that might be the correct hole.look at pic

Thanks John, I would like to see a 67 but my 69 is there also and I didnt think they put it in the same place.there is another little hole further down into the beginning of the trans tunnel, dont know if it is visiable in the pic but I think its too far down out of the way to be for the oil line.

Looking at the 67 AIM it appears to me that you are pointing to the correct hole for the oil line.  The AIM shows the hole to be 1.80" to the right of the center line of the car.  Is that where the hole is in that vertical plane?

Yes Steve, that is correct, the fitting I am pretty sure is original to the car,the reason im asking this is when I bought the car in 1984 it had seperate stewart warner gauges in it with the console gauges and tach, The car was raced at one time in its life maybe a x/scca a/sedan car.I left the roll cage in it in 84 when I restored it the first time and its still in there.I just wanted to make sure it wasnt a hole drilled for the stewart warner gauges.

With one grommet (part number 3906193) you should be back in business.   :)  BTW the AIM also states the hole is 0.50" in diameter.

That looks like the size of the hole,so a rubber grommet holds the plastic line thru the firewall not the metal piece thats on there now?

First, I don't own a 67 (although my son does) with an oil line that I can physically visually refer to for you.  I have a 68 but that's no good in this case.  I have been referring to the 67 AIM on page 386, UPC U17, A4.  What it shows for a big block is the line going through the grommet (in the 0.05" hole) and a clip  (part # 3784832) with a washer and screw holding the line down next to where the line connects to the engine.  I wish I could be more specific and helpful but I'm looking at a drawing.  Surely there are some folks out there who have this set-up who can jump in here and help you if I'm missing the mark or I'm out in left field on this but I'm as sure as I can be that I've given you correct info.  The drawing is not clear as to what the screw goes into but it "appears" to be into the block.

The following snippet is from a June 2004 thread on this site entitled "1967 console gauges firewall hole":

Here's a source for an identical grommet.
It's used for a thermostat capillary line on a "Garland" commercial deep fryer. Garland part # G 1155-1
