Inside picture of a 69 windshield washer pump
« on: August 29, 2015, 04:52:58 PM »
I am attempting to rebuild my wiper motor and washer pump assembly. I had so much caked grease on the washer pump that I could not really tell how the thing was originally installed. Now that everything is clean and I am putting everything back together I am stumped on the final assembly. If I had an image that would be great. I have searched google images and can't find anything. I feel like an idiot this should be so easy? If someone had a pic that would be great.

Thanks

Lawrence

Lawrence,

Where do you want to start ? Windshield washer, headlight washer, washer to wiper motor, all of the above ?

I've got NOS windshield washers and a complete breakdown on headlight washer components if you need them - take me a bit to dig them out, but no problem to do so.

Regards,
Steve

Guys thanks a ton! Hawk those pictures are awesome and help a great deal. I was able to get it back together this afternoon, but noticed from your pics hawk I have the little plunger tucked in the wheel too far. I also found one of the wires broken off the connection on the washer pump. I soldered it back successfully, but my assembly still needs a lot of work.
Steve I would like to rebuild this wiper motor. Do you have any parts for that?

I have a couple of extra motors, but no new parts (other than the NOS washer pumps). About the only routine you can go through with these is replacing brushes and/or refinishing the armature, either one being a pain due to the brush location. If you have a gear problem, you have to separate the case, which is difficult at best, not for the faint of heart for sure. If Kevin W is a good rebuilder, you might try him -

I went ahead and bought a new motor and connected the washer pump. Now the washer pump just keeps pumping. Not sure what the problem is? I guess I have power to the pump all the time but not sure why that is happening? Any ideas?

Maybe the switch is bad?

I forgot to ask you (never assume) which car this pump goes on - remember the RS pump mounts the outlets 90 degrees from the non-RS cars -

Just a thought -

Have you tried leaving the plastic cover off or bench test the unit and engage the wipers? That way you can see if it's clicking on and off. Grounds are a big problem for these things if you haven't already double and triple checked yours.
Just to make sure, you know the way these work: To use the washers you engage the washers with the button. They won't turn off until you turn off the whole wiper system. They won't shut off unless your wipers go to "full park." That's the problem I'm having with mine right now. They aren't parking so the washers won't stop squirting. It seems to be a ground issue inside the motor where you have to pry the case apart. I haven't done that yet.

I took the plastic cover off and watched the pump pumping and the clicking. The pump engaged when you push the button forward. When you slide the wiper switch to the right wipers only should work. I am going to check my switch tomorrow, and the ground connected to the switch
