« on: August 21, 2015, 03:05:32 PM »
Has anybody got a pic of a original hood insulation plastic retainer clips used on 69s and does any suppliers offer anything close to originals yet? Also looking for the correct 10/24 small bolts that hold the cowl flapper to the hood..Got some from AMK but they have a 3/8 head with a star washer on them?? I thought the heads were 5/16? Thanks in advance...RSR

The ones in this ebay ad are very similar to the factory clips.  (round clips with 4 holes)...

The 'solid' clips (round without holes) are referenced as 'NOS', but these were the OTC clips sold by GM in the 70's/80's...  these are not the factory installed clips.

I can take a photo of the screws you are looking for if that will help, but I have no extras...

rsr.. I spoke too quickly...  :)   I spent 45 min looking for the screws.  I remember removing them, and know I put them in the same box with the flapper and other parts ... but I have apparently since bagged (and hopefully) tagged those screws, and relocated them (to a different place I was unable to find in my search)!.. sorry..  when I find them, I'll photograph them for you...

While I was looking for those, I did find (in that same box) a bag of the original insulation clips, with a few of the OTC replacement GM clips, AND a bag of the reproduction clips that I bought a year or so ago to replace a couple that were missing when I bought the car in '76 (that was the reason I purchased the OTC GM replacements!)... now they have themselves been replaced!  :)   (If anyone needs one or two of the OTC ones, or a handful of the repros, I have extras as I only needed a couple to replace a couple of missing originals!   I did take some photos of these parts for you to make it easier to know what you are looking at:   The original insulation clip is on the LEFT in each of the first two photos.  the reproduction clip is on the right.  From the bottom of the reproduction clip, you can see the CHQ stamp (Classic headquarters) which has made an excellent reproduction of the original clip!  When installed, the CHQ stamp will not be visible!    In the third photograph, is the GM replacement part which GM sold in the late 70's for the insulation clip (clearly not the same as the factory part).  This last one is what the resellers call an 'NOS' part (Yes, new.. maybe old stock, but NOT original factory part)...

How many clips in a set? does SS hood differ from cold air as far as number of clips per hood. I have 7 clips from a early 69 RS/SS.

Thanks for the pics...I agree the CHQ clips are the best you can use other than originals.. I'm pretty sure I know what the 10-24 bolts look like but wanted to confirm my memory with some solid proof !

Guys how many clips go on a 1969 SS hood? I have 7 originals off my former 69 L-78.

I just counted the holes in the hood of the green car and I am coming up with 19..  I may have miscounted..  :o   My father removed the insulation due to it being sucked down into the fan and air cleaner not long after being new..  Does anyone make a good reproduction?  The last conversations were back several years ago with the molded unit and there were still issues then.  Anyone have any experience with them recently?  Flat or SS hoods are preferred.  Cowl hoods had no issues.
