69 hood stamp inquiry
« on: August 04, 2015, 02:47:18 PM »
Ive been searching ebay, craigslist, etc for an original flat hood for my Z.  My car is a 69 build of 01B.  What number on the hood would be in the range for my car? Closest i have found is a 37 which is early Feb.(nowhere near being correct)   Or does anybody have any leads?

There are a ton of flat hoods out there. Check craigslist and eBay like you have been. Hardest part is probably getting the sellers to look for the date, but I would guess most flat hoods out there are original. My car is a 08C (late 69) and has the original hood with a 26, which would be late June. So I would say from a couple weeks to month before 01B, so anywhere around 49 (1st week of december 68) would seem plausible. My question would be is the hood stamp different for late 67 or 68?

Ken my LOS car was built 04A of '69 and the original hood is stamped 13, most of the sheetmetal is week 12 so the hood is very very close to that build date. Not sure if there was only 1 stamping plant for hoods but wherever it was made, it must've been freighted to Van Nuys plant PDQ.....

I'd worry more about getting a hood that is flat - no bends/kinks in the center....
