What's I've been busy on.... :)
« on: June 30, 2015, 06:35:24 PM »
The last week or so, I've been busy/preoccupied with 'getting some more workspace'...  so I apologize if I've delayed in responding to anyone's PMs... :)

Very nice! Looks like a nice comfortable work space. Just remember, it always shrinks when you move in. I built a 26'x34' at one of our houses thinking it would have plenty of room. I outgrew it fast. My current garage is 32'x40'. Not near enough for me. I would go 40'x60' gambrel all day long now.

Ha, I outgrew our 40x60 and resorted to stacking cars on lifts.  I think no matter how large you build it, you'll find a way to fill it up, lol.

Very nice Gary. What are the dimensions and are you building it yourself? I had a 30'x40' built 15 years ago and I love it.

Very nice, just one suggestion though before you move in. I would have your concrete guy come back and add more saw cut joints. I know it may sound like overkill but I would cut no more than 10'X10' squares and fill the joits with epoxy. I poured concrete for 30 years and I thought that I prepped my sub grade to perfection and that I could get away with less joints in my personal shop and boy have I been humbled. I am chasing cracks and adding epoxy seems like every other year. All of your re-entrant corners at doors should have a joint on them also. Not trying to criticize but hoping to help you enjoy your shop for years to come without having your creeper wheels catch in a crack and throw you off.....

Thanks guys... :)    I've been trying for months to find a nearby storage building or a lot to build one on, and finally decided to 'waste some $$' and build another garage behind my house (usually a bad idea re investment, but very convenient!).. :)

Nope, no more toys (I hope).. and you guys are probably correct in that a garage is never big enough (I should know!).. :)  I built a 32x44 30 yrs ago behind my home (where my daughter lives now).  I still have use of that space, but it's jampacked; I even have two cars stored at my other daughters, and my basement garage is full also.

I'm just trying to get some 'workspace' where I can actually open the doors on a car to work on it! :)
I've got a lot of space and people don't believe why I need more, but I've got *too many* cars and not enough space to actually work on one the way I want.  My goal is to use my other spaces for storage and actually do work in this one (perhaps on a couple of cars simultaneously).

It's a 28x42 with 10.5' ceiling and a 'resting porch' on the side of it (shaded of course).. :)    I'm planning on fully insulating, and hopefully with a heat pump so I can work in it regardless of temp outside.   It's only about 40' from my back door so I am attempting to eliminate any excuses not to work.. :)

Barry, you are probably correct re the saw joints.  I minimized the joints over what the concrete crew and my builder (my son in law) suggested.  I do plan to clean, etch, and epoxy the floor (if I can wait 30 days or so before beginning to use it!).. :)

Bentley!   Come on down; bring (one of) your Camaros and we'll work on it for a couple of weeks!  :)

Awesome Gary - especially in your back yard!

I went 29d x 34w x 10.5h with a hobby lift, lounge & loft in my yard. Would go two cars deep if I did it again.

Enjoy!

Looks awesome! Any new space is good space. I like radiant heat and a couple zones. Then when I know I will be out there in an hour or so, I flip that zone on and let the concrete heat up nice. Then jump in.. D

Thanks guys,

It's almost weathered in now; sheathing is tyvek'ed, and decking is tarpapered, windows/walkdoor installed.  Shingles to go on as soon as possible (Monday hopefully)..  I can't wait to begin using it.. :)
