Aftermarket 67 gas cap
« on: June 17, 2015, 01:22:34 AM »
i installed a couple of reproduction ss gas caps on my 67 but can't get them to align straight.  Anyone ran into this problem?  The SS is tilted about 10 degrees  to left
Bought them from classic ind.  guess it's foreign made junk

I bought the locking bowtie to replace my original one from NPD and fit fine and straight...not sure where it was made tho.. cannot comment on SS style

Are you saying that when you twist it all the way on until it stops the SS is slanted?  If thats the case then the originals do the same (or at least the ones I have seen).  There should enough interference between the locking collars of the tank neck and cap to allow alignment of the SS..  I know for certain that my 67 is a repo and it fits the same as my original on the 68..

There were several threads about this over at TC. Boils down to filler neck stops on newer tanks from one or two sources were in the wrong locations and or the leash on the cap is mounted int he wrong position. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=211390 is one thread, http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=304137 is another.

Thanks for the info.  Not sure if a modification to the aftermarket cap feasible.  Headed to the gm nationals this weekend and may look for an original
