Cruise control systems (K30)
« on: May 27, 2015, 01:12:42 AM »
Would like to start a thread on the factory K30 systems. There are a few of us that
are attempting to gather info starting with the factory installed systems in 66
and the changes in the dealer and factory installed systems and more. Please chime in and add anything you might have to benefit us on this subject.
Thanks in advance

I have a good friend that has a 1968 RS 327-210 ME, with factory K30.  Is there anything in particular that interest you?  Servo Brackets?, etc.  I would be glad to go look and ask about.

During some discussion on the k30's availability in early days it had been questioned as to when the kits became available at the dealers. Has been thought that it wasn't till around mid production of the 67's or later. It was offered as a factory installed in 67 but then dealer option in 8 and 9.
This is a kit offered on eBay and shows a date that is dec 66. Wondering if this was production date of part and or kit itself.

Dear bc69,

I noticed what you said about production K30 only being in 67, and then dealer installed in 68 & 69.  I talked to my friend with the 68 RS and few minutes ago and refreshed my memory about the car.  This car was built in January 68 and was special ordered, "Charge to C. A. C." by a GM executive in Baltimore, MD.  The owner now has ran the VIN search twice, first in the early 90's by an agent, and second by NCRS recently.  The car came back with the same info. the second time also.

The car is loaded, RS, ps, pb, a/c, tilt, wood wheel, pw, cruise, am/fm, fiber optics, remote mirror, and is British Green ZZ, with Houndstooth 749, and more.  This car has never been molested, and WE feel because of these circumstances that it is factory cruise K30.  Here is the down side, it is a NOR car with no found build sheet.  The strong point that the car does have going for it was the patina and originality shown during dis assembly for restoration, and he did photograph heavily.

With this said, please let us know, if you know positively that K30 was rock solid 67 ONLY!  It just does not make sense that all this was ordered, and they put the cruise on at the dealer!  On second thought Charge to C. A. C. may have omitted the dealer?

Thanks,
Bryan

Bryan I'm not sure that's fact on the factory installed 68. Through the discussions that I have seen on the subject suggested that. The data shows that there were just over 300 factory installed in 67 and around 15 to 20 more than that in 68. This "Factory Installed" option went away in 69. My 12C 67 was ordered with the K30 option, but was delivered without it having been installed. Then in March 67 it seems to have had the K30 option installed at the dealer. My understanding to this point, is that the K30 was not available in kit form yet. The dealer had to order each individual part required for the K30 from the factory to do the install.

Not on mine but it is mine....I'll get a pic for you. I pulled the complete setup from a 68 L-30 Caprice, so ther are some differences in hardware on the vaccum pod, everything else should be correct minus the lengths of wire, cable and hose. All can be adjusted easy enough. Very tough to find complete, this was on a 07D build car .

I have a series of photographs that Brian and I took on a trip to Norman, OK. I had posted an ad in Hemmings many years ago seeking information about an original Vacuum servo Bracket to replace the missing one on my 68 RS that Bryan mentioned in the earlier post. I got a reply from a guy in Norman who had a 68 base Camaro with K30 as an option. The car looked to be unmolested and the bracket and other components were exactly in the same positions as mine.  I had not seen the difference in the original servo bracket for a 68 K30 and the Reproduction 67 K30 bracket that Ricks Camaro Parts offered at the time. There is a marked difference. I will try to post some of them for reference.
