1969 Z28 Garage find after 20 years!

Somebody with better knowledge than me on 69's will have to confirm the spoiler thing. I'm more of a 67-68 guy. I know just enough to get myself in trouble

If this is in fact a 12B build (if I'm reading that right?)  2nd week of December 68 would indeed be a short spoiler.  So that could be originally applied, but have to see under the decklid for more clues.

Basically would have to see the car in person to make any determination on value for me, but I do agree Bullitt, would be a neat car to go through the drivetrain on to make it dependable, and drive as is to enjoy without worry.  Was thinking of doing the same thing with mine.  I rarely ever sell any of my stuff so I'm not in the hobby to flip cars and make money, but I certainly don't care to get in over my head on one either when you figure asking price and cost of restoration, then given what ever the current private sale market is on a particular car.  That's how I look at it because eventually I'll be too old to enjoy these things and they'll have to go somewhere

Correct; D80 '69s built through about 01B could only use the '68 rear spoiler. They then used both spoilers in production until early March.

Thanks for the link. I need to brush up on my 69 details I guess. So along this line, I have seen Rally Green and Hugger Orange cars with black stripes in the past. Incorrect repaints I guess?

Wonder if the concrete core (cylinder) where the shifter handle should be is to stop critters getting through the tunnel cutout?
On the white stripe question, if you wanted a parchment vinyl roof, that dictated white stripes.

Look at the chart again. 69 is complicated by the top color - those are right cause they have black tops.

Good catch on the concrete core in the console pic! I didn't want to push my luck and ask him why. Another foot note to the story since I'm sharing what I was told by the owner: Two summers ago there was a major fire in this rural area where he lives. He was the last person to be taken out by the Cal Fire crew. He said when he looked back there were 40-50 ft. high flames across the road from his garage. Somehow all that burned were the steps to the side door. He lost two other cars and three more sheds but it went right around the garage. Check the back ground in the pics and see the dry grass again (and burnt trees) He said god must like Camaros cause there's no reason the shop should've made it. Almost lost one more of these treasures. I hope someone puts a deal together to restore this one properly.

Would be interesting to know how many of the original engine parts it retains and if the eng and trans #'s were indeed the original born with ?  That's could make a big difference between a low/mid $20K buy to the low $30's ... IMO

Yeah that's really what I was getting at with my comments and why I'd really have to see the car in person to make my own judgement call.  If the engine has been out of this thing for the last 20 years you never know what's missing or lost.  It's all those little things that nickle and dime you to dealth and easily turn into $1,000's when you're hunting parts.  Especially if reproduction isn't your thing and you must have OEM parts.  Then you get into a real treasure hunt that puts a dent in the bank account.
