1969 Z28 Garage find after 20 years!

Hello CRG. Not sure if it's ok to post this but, if anyone is interested, a real deal 69 z just popped up in Northern Cal on Craigs list. You can find it in Sacramento listings but the car is 3 hours North near where I live. I was the first any only one to look at it today after some serious smoozing and convincing the owner I wasn't there to offer him $3-$5 grand like everyone was doing on the phone. He has a long term history on the car and has owned it for over 20 years (parked in a garage I've driven by 100 times). 1995 reg on the plates. I don't want to give a full write up here but it is a correct survivor. The car is basically complete and all the important stuff is there including VIN correct DZ, carb, intake, Muncie, 4 leaf 12 bolt etc. The car has one repaint and codes to be Rally green (79-79). And mid night green standard int (723). This car was driven home and parked, motor pulled to be freshened up (it's apart), the muncie got restored and that's about it. Perfect body with ZERO rust except two small dents from the rear guards below the bumper. He can tell you the rest but I'm sure he's worn out as he mentioned messages coming in from as far as Texas while I was there. I think hes looking for an offer of mid to high $20's. One more thing that was interesting is it has a fold down rear seat. no trim options, has incorrect rear spoiler and probably was a flat hood car. Great car to restore for sure. Better than all these cut apart and re-bodied things that keep showing up. Good luck!

One more thing on the 69 Z28 above. It had the "cable" throttle linkage with a funky bracket hanging off it. No power steering but it has power disc brakes.

Guessing X77 car but it has the tail light trim??  Could have been added I guess.   Regardless this car just needs a good cleaning and gone over and then driven..  It "looks" fairly original..  But its only 4 photos too...

The engine is apart; it's been re-painted a non-original color. Lots of stuff needs to be verified. Mid-high $20s is all it is worth considering the investment required to paint it, build the motor and make it roadworthy.

Great car to build but I'd be careful.

It's an LA built car. It is all the money in my book too, but for someone looking to build and keep one it's a great platform with all the proper stuff present. No money to be spent on metal work other than stripping it it down for paint work. Another local 69 collector has pictures from years ago when it was in bare metal for this repaint. He tried to buy it at that time (when it was in the body shop) but it wasn't for sale. So take that for what it's worth. Here are some more pics from when I was there.

A couple of things from the 1980's that need to be unwound is: filled fender antenna hole (power antenna located in pass quarter), wrong steering wheel, aftermarket cassette player in dash, ignition box on firewall, "disco louvers" on inside of rear window, and tow hooks of front subframe. It was supposedly drag raced back in the day here locally. More pics:

Neat find.  Cost quite a bit to restore correctly.  Makes it hard for me to justify the price he's looking for unless.... all the right parts and pieces, even the little things, would have to be there for that kind of money.

The way I look at it, for 20-25K, if most of what he says is there (correct original block) and running gear, and the body is as solid as advertised, this would be a great driver. If it were me, when I was ready to paint, I might try to spray this one myself, knowing that it was going to be continuously driven and get more rock chips and such along the way. If you did a little at a time with it , and kept it running it would keep the fire burning. Do a quick aerosol over haul on the engine compartment, and stick a running chevy small block in it until you had the 302 rebuilt. Mask off the tires and spray the wheels silver, until you could locate 4 decent tires, then maybe blast the wheels and do it the right way later on..

I think over a couple of years of a part here, a little elbow grease there, this would be a hell of a car to drive, and I don't think you would lose money in the process, as far as value is concerned.

What steering wheel should it have with green standard interior and low trim options?

A few more pics.amazing that the silver facing on the dash bezel is good. This car is not sun burnt, just a crappy 80's repaint that's faded.  One of the rear bumper guards and the center caps are inside the car. He said the other guard got lost.

Steering wheel type makes sense but dark green in this car I would imagine. Tail pan pic shows dents from the bottom of the guards location. Also, 67-68 style rear spoiler.After looking at my pics I see that it is an old style two shaft cassette player (no cutting of the bezel)

Well I was thinking the spoiler would be correct for the early date of this car, right?
