What clip is being used for carb linkage.
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:06:12 AM »
I have a '69 with a 4053 carb and the 2 piece throttle rod that is 1/4" with a groove around it. What clip is being used to hold the linkage to the carb?  I'm having trouble finding something locally.

Thanks,  Dave

Its an e clip.  I cant remember the size but just take your throttle rod to Lowes or Home Depot and find the correct size.

Retaining Pins
Used on grooved shafts, these are also known as hairpin clips. 18-8 stainless steel are corrosion resistant and may be mildly magnetic. Zinc-plated steel pins are rust-resistant

For whatever reason the AIM shows 67 as being the cotter pin and 68-9 being an E-clip.  I always thought they were all e-clips..  But I havent looked at very many 7 Zs.

After reading up a bit your are right. < I always thought they were all e-clips>

I found a few cars with retainer style, must have been easier to find these vs the correct e-clips

I had to use a clip like this as my e-clip came off (at the wrong time  :( ) due to lever being worn

Darrell, our 01B 68Z is cotter pin. It might have been changed sometime during the model year but no clip on ours.

That makes sense yours still had the cotter pin.  By my own ignorance I didnt read the revision notes on the 68 Z28 A3 page.  Shows lever dwg revised 12-1-67..  But further down shows new "A" items relocated @ 3-8-68..  So maybe it was later into production of 68 that the change was made.??.

I've decided to use the clip shown in "Zman1969"'s post.  Easy to install and remove.  I was able to find them locally .(Fastenal)

Thanks, Dave
