What is the difference between The 842BV and DV?

Here's a DV pulley on my 69 Z. Apparently a service replacement. According to Jerry M's book, either one could be original. Different supplier?

On a Z? Should that not be a 3932456? I never knew why the DV either. There is something IIR, on Yenko site. Will have to do some digging.

Yes, apparently original replaced with this one. Not quite sure why a pulley would need replacement? I know the water pump and clutch fan were replaced as well, so I'm assuming it all happened together.

Wish I had a spare 456, I'd trade for that 842. Both are valued about the same.

Please, I am no expert. Sure miss Ed. They made that pulley for a few years and it has some variations. I only know what to look for on a 69 specific application. Here is a link to real 69. They are some good pics and description by Chuck. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/581853/458

One of the "telltale" ID's is the stamping mark that encircles the part #. Based on that, it looks as yours is for another year or it is a repop. I am leaning repop.

Yes, I see Heartbeat City is asking $450 for a used 456. The clutch fan on my car is dated Dec 1977, which makes me guess that the 824 pulley was still available as a service part in early 1978?

What does the seller mean by "has the correct notches around it " ?
I believe the seller is referring to the "snout" area of the pulley is distorted on original 824BV pulleys caused by the reinforcement on the backside being pressed into place and leaving the snout "notched" (IIR octagonal) instead of round (cylindrical), because of 8 swedged places that distort the snout area. Not all GM pulleys have this feature, but a real 824 does and experience tells me that is about the "going" price for the real deal.
I got the pulley yesterday - and indeed, you were spot on the characteristics you described. The snout is octagonal. Still fairly round....but you can definitely see the "flats". And guess what? Having the proper pulley cured the fan belt misalignment I had with the pulley that was on it. I'm happy it wasn't because of the water pump shaft. My new problem is the incorrect pulley was a bigger diameter than the BV....and now my fan belt is too long.....no big deal, picking up a new belt today. Thanks again!

Thanks! I have a confession to make....I am 100% a car guy....if they were cool - I like them...regardless of make. But I have mostly Mopars.....I know them inside out and am totally comfortable with them. I have judged them, both restored and survivors....most recent - I was at the Chicago show judging them a few months ago. I have written technical articles for magazines over the past few years as well...all Mopar stuff.  I have had a few Chev's over the years...as well as other makes. I like to dive deep into the technical side and learn all I can of whatever it is I have. I must say, the group here at CRG is top notch, friendly and ready and happy to pass on knowledge.....I have always been that way as well.....you know....with that other brand...Lol! Thanks Again!
