Hey that intake turned out to be buried treasure. Isn't that exciting???

The original owners son of my car continues to dig up small items, (License plate brackets, original plugs, promos from the dealer)

Keep searching for those items Hawk!
That's cool that you still talk to the original owner's son and that he's able to find parts for you. I've often been tempted to track down the girl my Dad bought mine from back in ~82. I think she was the second owner. It came from the Carolinas I believe. One of these days I'll order the NCRS sheet...

You and I both. Especially when it's on my car! ;-) I don't have any hope for my original carb because some scumbag stole it off the car back in the late 80s. Why anyone would steal a "Quadrabog", as we used to call them back in the 80s, I don't know. There is still a good chance my M21 is out there. I'd love to get a hold of that. I last saw it in ~91/92 at a Mobil gas station in Littleton, Mass in a light blue ~76 Camaro. I know I sound like a broken record on that one, but hopefully someone will read it one day and contact me lol

Gesh...I just realized this thread started back in 2014. I thought it was recent which is why I replied yesterday.
That's good (and rare) you were able to get the original one back.

No worries Mike. It was kind of like two different threads in one anyhow. What a difference between the dates on your LOS and my NOR. I was surprised mine was still so much earlier than my block.

do you have the POP? you can determine if the quadrajet you will need is a carter or a Rochester
I was also ready to offer you an earlier E dated manifold - as I believe I still have a spare, I just hadn't gotten around to looking

Glad to see you found your original

Thanks a lot Chris. I appreciate the thought. Unfortunately no POP. She came with a Rochester 4MV carb though. 7029215. That's what came on the 350hp 396 (L34) with a manual trans. Hopefully I can find one at some point without having to re-mortgage the house.

Thanks for posting that. I forgot about Carter. I'd be happy with either if I could find one reasonable enough. It's just going to sit on my born with motor while it's stored. I'm not planning on running it at this point. I just like to have the parts together now with them getting tougher and tougher to find or afford...

From CRG:
"Carter Carburetors
However, Carter was also licensed to build the Quadrajet as a secondary source, and supplied carburetors to not only Chevrolet, but other GM divisions as well. Note that all Carter-built Quadrajet carburetors will have the same part number and ID number as the Rochester-built Quadrajets, but will have "MFG BY CARTER CARBURETOR FOR GMC" cast into the carburetor body."

are you planning on ever running the motor with the carb? do you care about numbers matching? if so- looks like the current going rate for these carbs is $1300-$1500

Yep. That's why I don't have one... The Corvette guys have caused the price of those things to go through the roof. I have my born with 396 so if I went through the trouble of restoring the motor, I'd want to do it with the right carb too. Everything else on the motor is original. For now I'll just be running another 396 I have from a Chevelle with a Holley 3310.

The 3310 is a good carb to run.

But you could find a Quadrajet that looks the same, just doesn't have the right numbers.  Just depends on what you want to do.

I know I don't have one with that exact number, but might have one that looks close. Send me a PM if you want me to take a look.

Thanks a lot for the offer Bryon. I appreciate it. I'm happy to run the 3310 that I have on an aluminum intake. Mine is more of a day 2 anyhow because of the wheels and headers. The #s Quadrajet is just one of those things I keep my eyes open for and would love to have. I'm not really looking for one. If I ever want to run the original motor I'm sure I'd look a lot harder for the numbers matching carb. For now, it'd be just a nice to have. Plans are always evolving so if something changes, I'll keep you in mind.
