Yes, it was light gray, but I can't tell you a paint code..  I was unable to find a proper original factory reference when I repainted mine..  I just found one that seemed a close match to an original jack/base that I had...?

This question seemed to of been asked several times over on Team Camaro in the "Restoration Center" but had very little response.  It appears to of been a light gray.

I used Rustoleum Machine Gray for both Jack and Shocks.  I was not concerned with "spot on" originality, but wanted to be close.  I forget where but it was recommended somewhere.  My shocks aren't even spiral shocks, they're Monroe Gas shocks.  But at a glance they look right. My cars a driver, I read somewhere here on a post that I wouldn't be happy with Spiral shocks on a driver.

Don't laugh, but this one worked for me. I used it on the backsides of the SS1 Rally wheels on my '70 LS5 - it's a close match to "putty gray", which is the recommended color for shocks and jack bodies from several sources. Cap color is pretty close to finished color - cheap enough to risk a can to try, IMO -

Krylon’s Dove Grey is a good choice and noted to be close. "Rustoleum sells a "High Performance" Industrial paint at Hardware store chains. Their color #7581 - Light Gray is a very close match to the original base color. The UPC code is 020066758189." The Rustoleum info came from past comments I saved from somewhere but have not tried.

Did your jack parts appear to be gloss or was it just the shade that was close? Never saw anything that would indicate gloss on those prior!

I am looking for the color of the jack for a buddy. I have mine and it is not gloss. It appears to be lighter than the shocks also. Probably not made the same place so I would doubt the paint was the same?

Chick,  sorry to be so slow in responding (not sure how I missed your question a year ago).. :)     but as I recall, the color/shade was what I was looking for...  don't think I was even thinking 'gloss'... and not sure how much gloss was left on my jack base after almost 40 yrs.. :)  (You can use some extra fine steel wool to 'reduce gloss' if desired....)
