The trans confirms that the car is an SS.
What's the axle code? Part #'s on the engine frame mounts?

I thought the extra letter "E" was strange and the 3.31 ratio seamed much lower numericaly than I would have guessed, it used to have a 4.10 gear in it when I bought but I guess that was added later on

The "E" is the positraction manufacturer code, and when applicable, is added on a second line.  The posi manufacturer codes are D for Dana, E for Eaton, and W for Warner.

Ok I read that writeup but somehow I missed about the D,E and W for the carrier type and being on the second line,  thanks for explaining that!

The axle and trans look original. No question the car was an SS.
What proof of the BB? Engine frame mount #'s?

is the engine mount numbers on the front side or back side? I gotta believe its going to be tough to see them with the headers. It does have a big block heater core, had a factory big radiator in it, pretty sure the big blocks sit slightly to the passenger side also.
Its for sure a orig RS also, back in 88 I bought GM brand new quarters, fenders and a rear tail piece and the holes and wirings were all factory for the reverse lights, came with all the vacuum tanks and actuators still mounted, but had to change the actuators to operate the doors. Everything worked perfect for a couple years after the restoration until the cheap aftermarket color coded vacuum lines started cracking and leaking haha

The deluxe interior is all original and perfect except for the headliner and rear speaker deck. the headliner was only changed because a smoker in the rear seat decided to poke there cigarette threw the head lineer  :(  The carpet still has a tag stapled on it but its not a GM name on it, been a while since I looked at it but its dated 1967 and the car is a January build so I know its factory

I honestly doubt the 3846429 tailhousing on the transmission is original, but that's not a big deal.  Could have been replaced.

Rest of the transmission sounds original. I did not see the transmission stamped information pic?

Metal tag is correct for 1968 Camaro, M20, 3.07 and 3.31 rear axle.  (AIM says M20 with L34, L35, L48)
