Need help trying to figure out if my 1967 SS/RS Camaro was originally a L30/M20 (327), SS (350), Z28 (302), or 396. I'm stuck in the 4P scenario
where Fisher hadn't started using the individual codes yet. I've read most, if not all, of the links on CRG concerning this subject.
I bought the car as a drag racing car. The previous owner said it started out drag racing in Bakersfield in the 1970's or 80's. None of the
original drivetrain is available, but the 454 engine and Rear end have some work done to them that makes me believe maybe it was a semi-pro (or
higher) car vs amateur (pure speculation on my part). I had always thought the car had been wrecked in the front end, and was probably converted
to a drag car very early, because it seemed like the front end body wasn't consistent with an SS/RS (Ex. doesn't have the correct blinker cutout for
a rally sport, but does have the correct separate rear backup lights, Hood has red under painting and not SS, etc).
I'm trying to find an older picture of the cowl trim plate, and will upload once I do. I spray painted it before I started looking up the codes,
making it hard to read. Hey, it was a drag car
I've enclosed a picture of the plate, and a "pencil over-marking" for easier reading. Here is
what I see.

1. It has the mounting plate for the torsion bar (4P code). The rear end is a 12 bolt out of a 1968 camaro, so not the original.
2. It has the SS interior doorpads, and padding for a fold down seat (1L - A67).
3. Speedometer Cable holes - This is a mystery. I welded up the holes, from the firewall side. Best I can tell, from the inside, is both holes
were punched at the factory (ugggh). I have another 1967 RS camaro that has just the Saginaw hole punched, but not the Muncie hole (as a point of
reference). Not sure if I'm seeing this wrong, or if the factory may have punched both holes by accident.
4. VIN and Cowl trim plate seem consistent with each other.
5. Looks like there are holes for a proportioning valve on the subframe, drivers side. But there are two holes vs 1.
Here is where I am logically
1. Speedometer cable hole - if it was one or the other, I could determine if it was L30/M20 by just having Saginaw hole. Only the Muncie hole, and
it could be SS350, Z28, or 396. But, I have both.
2. Proportioning Brake valve holes - There are two horizonal holes under drivers door on subframe. Not sure if these are factory or not.
Definitely FW w/o AC. So not much help.
3. Seems like, with the early 02B date code, there could be some question on the use of the 4P2L code. From the public information, I think I'm
stuck. I either need to maybe do some research into previous owners and try to get some original documentation, or maybe CRG has some information
in their database that can help at least eliminate some of the options.
Thanks for all your help in advance.
