Was there a console with gauges? If so what oil line fitting set up is installed? Seems to be some speculation on what is actually correct.

It's a console with gauges.   I'll have to check out the bottom of the gauges Tuesday.  That will be my first chance to look and report back

Thanks  Gary,  I should of asked that.  I was gonna take a pic of the block and the gauges.  Wasn't sure what connections you were talking about.  Check back Tuesday afternoon if you can.  Unfortunately the car and parts are sitting at a warehouse and I'm working tomorrow  and will be there Tues.

Couple of questions:  
1)  Couldn't find a part number stamped anywhere, is there and did I overlook it ?  
2)  Like the crank, a yellow paint band brushed around it, why did GM do this ?
3)  The 3 bolts marked "N" on the heads look original.  I know GM used several suppliers, so is there a list of all possible bolts GM used during assembly on all parts ?

I just received Jerry's Definitive 4th edition a few days ago and just started reading.  Great info and thanks, I'll check it out.

Ok.. Back to the block, Sorry guys for jumping around.  Some MUCH better picks of the DZ stamp and other areas.  Also some more of the crazy blue paint.  That's some strong a$$ adhesive in the paint.. all those years and to never peal off and get mixed into the oil.  WOW !

And some more blue paint.  On both ends.  I imagine John Z could answer once again.. why the blue ?   So assembly line workers knew what was coming down the line ?  Did certain blocks get certain colors.. 302 = blue,  396 another, 307 another and so forth ?

I thought I could punch it up some, but would need the original.... Looks good, better to have a shot a little ways back to see factory broaching etc. THEN a super close up.. Anyway, for what it's worth.. Danny

Nice find and mostly all original to boot, congrats. Can you please post a couple detailed pics of the master cylinder lid / wording. Dave

Dave, here is a thread from a few months ago about correct master cylinder lids with pics and wording. Jerry M. told me that mine is the correct factory lid for my car and it matches Gary's (69Z28-RS) and is exactly like the one in his picture. Hopefully Darrell also has his which will be nice to compare with.
