Final adjustment on RS Headlight doors
« on: July 28, 2014, 12:27:31 PM »
I am doing some fine tune adjustments to my Gold car and would like to get the driver headlight door to close a little tighter. Before I took the car apart and painted it the doors were perfect. I have the passenger door adjusted great but the drivers doors needs just about a 1/4" more adjustment to close properly. I have adjusted the plate on the cross member all the way rearward and that is not getting me the last little bit of adjustment. The vacuum canisters are OER repops that work great but was wandering if I have one that has a shaft that is a little too long. Anyone had that problem, or is there another place where I should be looking to adjust to get this last little bit of adjustment?

Thanks

Lawrence

I have found that when you run out of adjustment you can solve it with a pry bar, no really, not kidding. Take a look at it and see which way you need to tweak the bracket holding the canister.

The painted headlight door actually has movement on the inner aluminum door/hinge assembly. There are some captive cage nuts on the inner. If you loosen the screws slightly and the small body nuts toward the fender end, you would be surprised how much you can move them, including up and down.

If you have a Chassis Service Manual, look at 12-3 ,-12-4.This is in the electrical-body & chassis section.Has rszmjt said you would be amazed at how much movement there is for adjustment!

12-4  Fig. 3 "Headlamp Panel Adjustment"
Apparently we are looking at different reference materials. My AIM is setup UPC 12 with subsections A,B,C,D and then several sheets per section. I.e. sheet 12 B4. I can't find anything 12-4 figure 3. Thanks for the effort

I have adjusted every possible adjustment on the driver's side headlight door and the door still does not close up snug like the passenger side. I have to assume the shaft in the accuator too long. I am going to get another and put it in to see if this is better.
