1967 Camaro RS/SS
« on: June 30, 2014, 05:16:53 PM »
I have a 1967 Camaro RS/SS that was built at the Van Nuys Plant. The Camaro was around the 9100 (October) produced. The Cowl Tag is 10C (October 3rd week) with 2ELG 3SL 4P 5BY options. The problem I have is that it looks like someone decked the block and only left the VIOOMT (October 7th). The block is a 3892657 cast with a date code of H106 (August 10th 1966). The Muncie 4 speed has a cast number of 3885010 and a code of P7M15 (1967 model year August 15th). The only other numbers I could find had been stamped on top and It looked like CT047J with a mirror. The 12 bolt had a cast of 3894860 with a PY0927G (September 27th) from Eaton. The date code was H286 (August 28th 1966). Do this look right or do I need more numbers?

I don't see anything wrong with those dates.  RS/SS 4-speed with A/C...Nice!

Sorry about the great grammar skills. I had to retype my question four times as it kept getting blown away by spell check.  By then I just wanted to post something. Thanks for the reply, and it is a nice car. Unfortunately the wife wants to move and it is up for sale along with my 69 SS. I asked the question because the first thing everyone would ask is "Do the numbers match". I don't like to tell people things that aren't true about the car and there are people on CRG that know a lot more than me about date sequence etc..

Does anyone else see a reason not to advertise this car as number matching?

I think for you to get a better answer would be to post pics of the tag, vin & drivetrain stampings etc..

IMO you should not make a blanket statement of "numbers matching", and will always need to describe the block as being "date correct and believed to be original/born with", since there is no number left to match.  Best to be up front than have someone later discover the partial VIN missing and start to question the rest of the car's integrity.  Also, I’ve seen a MU block with casting dates close to yours that was assembled, as I recall, on Aug 19th, so to me the October 7th engine assembly date stamp raises my eyebrow.  I’m not sure it would sit around that long before assembly, but I am not familiar with the inventory methods at engine plants.  Also, if it was decked one would think the engine assembly stamp would also be gone.  Why would they remove the partial and not the assembly date?  As already mentioned, post up some pics.

There are ways to try and pull the old number back up, using chemicals or special instruments.  Do an advanced search at the above left section and you should find old threads.  Might be worth a try.

FWIW, the engine I mention above was from an 11B car.  Seems the inventory control on L48s at the assembly plant must have been FIFO, with some stuck back in the corners and waiting awhile before getting pulled for assembly.

I appreciate the input. The previous owner wrote that it was matching numbers on the bill of sale. That being said I would like someone to look at my pictures but they are 3.5 MB each. Is there another way to post to CRG since the allowed file types shows only 200 KB allowed. Not to technical with pictures and posting.
