Frederick Nationals ...

It's weird that I missed DuskBlue's air cleaner seal, as that is a pet peeve of mine.  In fact I helped a fella out in the show field correct his when I noticed it upside down and inside out..  which is the way that the seal on DuskBlue's car appears to me.   When the seals are on improperly as that appears to be, the seal doesn't touch the hood usually.

To correct that you have to remove the seal from the top metal cover, then turn it 'inside out' (which probably will take two people), flip it over so that the little lip which is on the top of your seals currently, will grip perfectly around the lip of the metal top plate... and your seal will then we correctly placed.   I'm embarrassed that I didn't notice this on Mike's car....  I suppose I was just running along taking photos at that point, Or I was distracted while snapping that one... ?..

I had a great time at the show meeting people in person that I have met on the web. My car scored 89.6% for a Silver first time out.

I asked one of the five judges what he thought about my hood seal and after inspection he said it was installed correctly. The original picture of my engine that I displayed, showed a tear in the seal with half folded in and half folded out.  I'll have to wait a few weeks to see what the other four judges thought.

While my car was stranded on the lift after judging, I had Courtney Mabeus a reporter for the Fredrick News - Press stop by and ask me why with all the beautiful cars at the show, I decided to display my car up in the air...

I really had a good time at the Nationals for the first time, well organized and great judges. I was amazed they spent so much time on each car. My Frederick trip started off with a 3 hr. visit with Jerry MacNiesh and his amazing garage of history. He has a mint restored 65 Impala 427 4 speed convertible that I was drooling over. Friday I met up with Mike (Dusk Blue Z), Gary (69Z28-RS), Brian(Brian302),Chick (68Camaroz28),Larry (scoop) and Charley's 67 Z. It was funny meeting these guys for the first time because you get an idea in your head what someone might look like, I am usually wrong. Once you start a conversation you can defiantly see there personalities in they way they write. That was great meeting & talking with these guys. All great knowledgeable guys and an asset to CRG. I have a couple pictures to share, I think there was 32 Camaros total in building 9, not all were being judged. I got a silver with a 92% so I was really pleased. George

Scoop's (Larry's) 68 RS/Z is one sweet ride.  He sent me pics of it once he was there.  This is just making me want to go next year..  Is it me or was there not a lot of 68's at the show?  At least by the pics at this point.

I too had a great time at the Nationals. It was great seeing you all this year. I have attended the Nationals for the last four years and this year I brought my Car. The last three years I watched and learned from the judges and participants as to the correctness of the cars.  Using what I learned I achieved a score of 1000 for the Bow Tie Class this year. I thank all the judges and participants for all the knowledge they shared with me. I have met so many great people and have gained life long friends. On Sunday I spent time at Jerry MacNeish's shop where he went over my car. What a great guy! He even gave me a fast ride in his all original white 68 Z with 411 gears.  Thanks to all.  Scoop

Scoop's attention to detail is amazing through out the whole car, it is unbelievable to get a perfect 100% score first time showing. Congratulations! I was kidding him about jacking up and centering his tires and he pointed out the valve stems are also centered correctly on the tires. Great guy with a sense of humor. George

I thought Jerry's 68 had an even lower gear like a 4.56 or something, if it is the low milage original paint car that is in his book.

This was my first trip to the Nationals and I was very impressed with the work everyone has put in these cars. I am restoring a low mileage 68 L78 and will be back to study over the next few years.

Larry (scoop) brought a car that raised my expectations of where I need to take my restoration. Thanks for the great info everyone.
