Thanks for pic. I wanted to see if it may have originally been a BB car. I am not familiar with IDing BB a/c equipped cars, which I realized your car was an a/c car right after I posted, so others may want to comment. Looks like a SB shroud and bracket though.

Not sure what you mean by BB and SB. If you need a better picture of that area  I would glad to take another now that I know what you are interested in.

Possible car could have been a factory BB= Big Block Chevrolet,IE 396 cu or SB=small block Chev. IE 350 cu. VIN has nothing to do with that. Different engine required certain components that are different between BB&SB Like engine mounts, radiator, a/c box, trans. x-member,clutch z bar, shifter, shift linkage and shift mount to trans, radiator shroud. Just because your car has a SB in it now that does not prove it originally came that way, I am trying to clarify what originally came in your car and not assuming it is a 350 car..

I can't see it clearly, but it appears to be a "L" (LOS) stamped VIN on the pad.  I've seen at least 67s with odd looking stamps - font size etc - and it may have gone on into later years as well.

It was a SS350 car originally.

Trans is from a 1968 car.

Thanks!

I picked up the car about 16 years ago in Cottonwood, AZ. It's an Az car as far as I know, don't know what deal ship it came from but live to know. I've not done much to it other than drive and enjoy it. It has A/C and a counsel. Has the standard interior in white. Body is straight and solid. I replaced the headliner and the 2 front bucket because of tears in the material. You all have been very informative.
Thanks!
Here are the codes from the tranny:
Case - 3925660
Tail House - 3857584
Side Cover - 388468
Stamp - P8D15, 39514, C18

Can you post a picture of the area with the P8D15 stamped code?

And could the rest of it be CT8 39514 rather than C18?  If so, it is a 1968 replacement transmission, assembled April 15, 1968.

Next time I have it in the air I will, but that was all I could see and it was stamped in a smaller script and worn down. Not much to see.
KurtS, when you said it was an SS350 originally were you talking about my car? If so, how can you tell?

Both halves of the engine-side box are shaped differently, and the external refirigerant plumbing and valving is different on BB cars vs. SB cars.
