Air cleaner BASE has 'holes' in it ...original???

   But I meant to post this, ... Regarding the '67 that I just had shipped back from CA (it's a 327/275 WITH smog).
   The base of the air cleaner assembly has holes around the entire base. These holes are approx. 3/8 dia., ...centered approx. 1-1.5" from each other.
   I will post a pic shortly, ...but I have not seen/heard of this before therefore thinking it may not be original. Yet at the same time, ...I don't see too many '67 cars with smog, ...and I'm wondering if it might be 'real' .The lid seems original due to condition of decal, etc., ...so it's got me wondering...

 ...pics later today, ...but I'll mention, ...the holes are not actually "drilled", ...this appears original to the air cleaner base (not that I'm saying the base itself is original to the car)
   ...I'll get the pics up this afternoon (1/2 day at work  )

I also just bought an original 67 RS-SS that was all original down to the radiator cap and distributor cap. The base on the air cleaner has those holes in it also. I thought the previous owner did it but now that you mention it the holes look like they were not drilled but came that way. You have me wondering now! Hurry up and post that picture. Thanks, Jim

Where are these holes in relation to the air filter?  Around the outer edge of the base where the air would flow through the filter?

...sorry for he delay here, ...and I don't even have the pics uploaded yet     (OK, ...I'll get to it tonight)
     ...the holes are 'outside' the perimeter of the filter as it sits in the base.

    But after closer inspection, ...the holes DO appear to be drilled.  Now,... PaceCarCorral, ...you've got ME wondering. My car is an LOS car, .....built Nov 1966. Maybe our cars were owned by a pair of motorhead neighbors that got 'bored' one Saturday afternoon

Back in the early 60s there were guys (not exactly rocket scientists) who would drill holes to allow more air in (That's why I asked about the filter relationship).  Granted, it was probably the wrong approach to a good idea by guys who owned a drill but didn't have the money to buy a new breather.
