Carb for 02E L-35 Automatic
« on: November 05, 2013, 02:08:50 AM »
I have found a couple of carbs at Custom Rebuilt Carbs that  I think might work for my car. I would like to get some input on which would be the "more" correct. There are 2, 7027200, one dated L6 and one H6. The other is a 7027210, dated B7. Would any of these work for a 02E built L-35 automatic. Thanks, Christmas is comming.   :D

does you car has pollution control (A.I.R.?) Look at the chart http://www.camaros.org/carb.shtml#usage and see what number carb you need.
7027210 seems right for either for mid year automatics. B7 is good date IMHO.

B7 should be fine then, I assume. The carb could have been assembled any day during that month because no day was recorded in the stamping so you have some wiggle room.
My 05B L35 had a D7 dated Q-jet.

I received my 7027210 carb from Custom Rebuilt Carbs. Very nice piece. I did learn a couple of things about this carb I didn't know. Speaking with Phil, he told me that on this carb , the throttle rod connects to the carb directly without going through the rubber gromit, and plastic sleeve. On the other side, the choke rod needs to be bent to match up with the linkage. I know my engine bay is going to need some good cleaning before this new carb goes on. Again, great work and great folks to talk to.  :D

Both my 67's (4B and 5B) L35 throttle rods connect without the grommet on the carb side. Also, both have the 2 piece throttle rod. The 396/325 HP reproduction one piece rod you see for sale is for earlier BB cars.

Mike, Thanks for that info. When I bought my car back in 95, it had a two piece rod on it. Just thought someone had replaced it, so I got a one piece like shown in the 67 AIM, L-35, sheet A-11. I have to get the two piece out ad get it back on. Do you know about when the switch over time was?? Just curious. Thanks again, this site is great.   :)

Hi LVN,

The 67 AIM L35 A11 only shows the sheet dated 11-30 as the release date and an update on 2-8-67 to the accelerator lever. Nothing is said about the throttle linkage changes.
If you look at the early 7027200 Q-jet for example, you can see the provisions for the nylon bushing but none for the 2 piece design, providing the throttle plate hasn't been changed. The later Q-jets that followed like the 2027211 show the hole that can accommodate the 2 piece throttle linkage that don't use the nylon bushing. If you try to use the 2 piece design rod with the nylon bushing it will not fit due to the machining size of the shaft is smaller. So, unless there is a more definite answer somewhere, if a poll is taken for 67 BB carb model number, car month build and linkage type, we will have a indication when the cut over took place.

My info is:
Car Date  Carb Number           Throttle
04B        7037210 (AT/AIR)   2 piece
05B        7027211 (MT)         2 piece

Hey Mike.

Got to love all those changes and updates. Keeps everyone on their toes. I see in the AIM, L-35, sec A7; the page date is 11-30 showing a 7027211 carb. The service bulletin for that carb wasn't until June of 67?????? Got to love it.  Thanks again for all the info. I still have a lot to learn about my car.   :)

That AIM is interesting indeed...as you pointed out, the sheet date was 11-30 and only showing the 7027211. CRG lists this Q-jet number as the 'late' version and interesting enough is the AIM shows no earlier versions listed such as the 7027201 'early' for example.
The service bulletin from June 67 mentions the 7027211 could have been used as a replacement for automatic versions of the Q-jet being it was in production for several months by then.

This car hobby endeavor is sure full of surprises.

Mike
