That sucks..  Been there before.  Just a tip for the future.  Put moth balls in or around the car & no critters will get around it..

Had that problem when I stored my car at my moms house while I bought my home (she kept her dog food in her garage). I used the dryer sheets as well as slivers of Irish spring bar soap placed through out the interior. Suckers never came back and smelled so fresh

The trick is to refresh the sheets after about 60 or 90 days to keep them away all winter. I stuff a box worth in every opening, and crack they can look into including the defroster vents, air-cleaner snorkel and the tail pipes. And the added benefit is that they do not drive you out of the car by the smell or leave stains as they dissolve like traditional mothballs do. In two winters of using it I have found the mice hate the regular sent the best second to linen/spring fresh.

The two years before I had to clean out tons of the neighbors dog food and house insulation from the defroster Y vent housing under the dash - not fun and not easy to do.

Mice got in when I was building our house and car was in storage. 29 years ,no problem than one winter...
16 years later I'm finding bird seed and fluff on the tear down. I've used mothballs but they lend odor. Got a mean barn cat now (he brings me chipmunk remains when I'm out wrenching) also going the dryer sheet method when it's back together

Place full bars of irish spring (open box) in each corner of your garage..mice will not come in...when you can not smell the aroma any more replace them...I replace two bars in the spring...all four in the fall..works all the time

Another rodent repellant I use is Fresh Cab.
Small packets which last several months. Nice aroma. Works for me.
Can buy at Amazon and many farm implement dealers.

Just a personal FYI... Be careful leaving baited traps about. You are ASKING for them to come on in. Better to go with all the other suggestions, then to actually bait them. I found some old traps in my Dads garage. They are metal boxes with a spring loaded opening. They walk in, and it throws them into an area where they can't get out. Course they suffer to death in there if you don't get to it in time. But ya just gotta let it go, humans are number 1!! ... Danny

With four decades of storing cars, boats, jetskis, sailboats, etc., I've never seen a trap in a mouse nest. But just last month I helped an elderly friend clean a nest out of a 39 Ford, and it was lined with dryer sheets.
