Flywheel Inspection Cover Paint
« on: June 19, 2013, 11:27:40 AM »
What is the correct paint type, color and finish for the flywheel inspection cover on a VN '69 Z, and would it have had engine orange overspray on it?

Good question! I would like to know too.  My guess is no, I think they were dip primed black.

I thought manual tranny equipped motors has the bellhousing already mounted (with inspection cover) and painted as a whole unit. The amount of overspray varied by the painter. I assume you do mean for a manual tranny.

That cover was installed at the engine plant as a raw metal part, and got engine orange paint except for the area directly behind the back of the oil pan. The Service parts were dip-primed black so they wouldn't rust in storage.

I have many survivor cars in my data base so here's one of my client's cars that is a true survivor car that has been in the family since new.  Very orange.  Bell housing too.  Very neat car!

Enjoy,

And, here's a big block car, '65 396 Impala that I just restored.  This car sat for over 20 years in a Quonset hut and was a virgin before I began the restoration.  All orange.........

I believe the NOS covers have 2 holes near the oil pan flange....
Would appreciate it if someone could confirm if the one I have, pictured below, is the correct factory original (not NOS) type?
