Finding the Correct Underhood Lamp
«
on:
August 22, 2006, 12:27:58 AM »
I have a '67 L6 that originally had the underhood lamp option (wire clips are still attached to the hood bracing). The original lamp is gone, so I ordered a reproduction for a '67, but instead of the one mounting hole, as shown in the AIM, it has two mounting holes. The one mounting hole is in proper location just as the AIM describes. I have looked at all of the suppliers and all they sell are the lamps with the two mounting holes. What gives?
Thanks,
Dan

Sounds more like a 69 under hood lamp mounting pattern.

Or maybe a 68 and 69. The 68 AIM speaks of existing holes and appears to show two holes (two lines showing screw placement, but interestingly enough only one screw actually drawn).

Yep, original 67 hood lamps have one hole and hang and work upside down. I don't know of any repo's that are correct.

Does anyone know if the 67 hood lamp assembly was the same as the Corvair?

Part number 987028 was used for ALL ( Corvair, Chevy, Chevelle, Camaro) in 1967. It was removed from service in January 1968.

Phil,
Yes, all the same for 67. (Corvair, Camaro, Chevelle, etc...)
The same goes for 68 and 69, although all three years were different part numbers.
If you're looking, there's one on
EBAY
right now!!

Dan,
Bingo! I knew the Corvair light looked like what you had described. If you will look at the Ebay picture that Ed posted, it looks just like the one on my friend's Corvair (hanging upside down). If you want a replacement, look at junked Corvairs or Novas, as well.

Ed & Steve,
BTW, how did you find that info.? The P & A? If the P & A, what was it listed under?
I about tore my friend's P & A apart looking for that lamp, but didn't find it under "hood, lamp, under, assembly" and half a dozen other words...

Foolish me... We evn looked under "lamp".
If somebody wants to do a study on interpreting the P&A, I'd read it!
Thanks, Ed... again!
