Jerry.

I've seen those more often then the others in post #20 when I was stripping 66 to 72 GM cars for a friend of mine at his body shop.

Is it likely that GM used more than one supplier for these brackets, especially for LA cars? I have a NOS front bracket with the GM stickers and AAc, but the rear bracket (def. original to the car) has the GM part # stamped on it, but no AAC...... I saw the eBay auction that people have referred to, and I went out in the dark with a flashlight to check my brackets... no AAc on the rear though  :(

My ft tag bracket was taken off my car when I purchased the car in 1976 or so (Alabama only requires rear tag), but it still has the plastic inserts, original screws, and even the rubber bumper in it, as well as pretty heavy paint.  I could not see any AAC or any other stamping in it, but maybe if it were stripped I could?   Attached is a photo of one of the screws and the plastic insert.
I also checked my Rear tag bracket (never removed from the car and even with the original seller's tag surround - Joe V Clayton- Arab AL).   No AAc on the rear tag bracket (that I could see), but there was a GM pn 3913608 on the backside.  The tag attachment screws appear the same as the ones in front bracket.  photos attached.

So the big headed screws are fine to use. Gary, I bet the paint is covering your stamping really well if you said the paint was on it thick.

Gary,

Do you have a side view of the screws to see how thick the head is?

I removed one of the tag screws to make dimensional photos (attached).  Screw appears to have a 1/2" diameter head, approx. 1/8" thick.  Screw is approx. 5/8" long.

Hey Alabama,
You should take one of the screws from the front bracket your not using and use it in the empty hole of the rear license plate bracket !!! :)

Hey guys I got the front license plate bracket in today. It has the AAc stamp on it and the paint is real heavy on it, and not smooth. Nice heavy steel too.

Good deal!
The brackets were dipped which likely accounts for the finish you see.
