Front license plate bracket question.
« on: April 18, 2013, 07:31:53 PM »
Anybody know how to tell the difference between a GM front license plate bracket and a reproduction? I have a chance to buy a GM bracket but seller can't say for sure if GM. There is AAC stamped on it.

Is the AAC stamp only for 69? I can check my 67 when I get home.
Where is it stamped?

Mike.

Not sure on the other years. There is one on ebay for 69 with the old school part number sticker and the plate has AAC stamped in it. Looks to be on the front side.

Nope, '68 license plate brackets are stamped "AAC" too.

AAC (mfg. stamping) was stamped on several parts so when you see that it is a GOOOOOOOD sign. :)
Another quick example where the ACC is stamped is on the 68/69 Z/28 power booster vac. hose bracket.

That's good to know Chick. Now I have to go look for a booster hose bracket and loose the reproduction one I have. Never ending details.

Just when you think you know all of your cars birthmarks....I'm glad this thread started!
The one on eBay looks very different (if it's the one being sold by 396-325). But if that is what '69 looks like then that explains it.
I looked at my original 67 and a NOS one I bought around 1982 and they both have AAc stamped.
The original 67 stamp is on the middle back and the NOS is on the front lower right (facing the bracket).
As a side note, the original was flow coated with a few large drip marks.
Notice how the 'c' is smaller than 'AA'. The 69 fonts on eBay look the same.

They are not too often on ebay but have seen them and they normally bring high $$. The $125 is correct for what I have seen sell and a few for higher than that.
Quick story from last Saturday: Was at a car flea market Saturday and a guy had one with some other junk brackets. Asked him how much and he said $5 bucks. Needless to say I bought it! It had a crack at the top but easily fixed and then coated. Sold it to a good friend for what I paid for it who has a 69Z minus that bracket. Well not anymore!

I bought a front license plate bracket from member Dannystarr. He says it has the AAC on it but neither one of us was for sure if original GM. Thats why my post. Danny though maybe JohnZ would let us know for sure. I'll let ya'll know when I get it what's on it.
I was going to bid on that one on ebay, it only went to $26.01, but Dannys seemed more authentic.

The brake booster bracket, $125.00, that's expensive. I wonder if it was used on any other vehicles besides the Z28. Ever notice how high prices are for Z28 parts? Man, these people are holding these parts hostage and asking ransom type money like we're all zillionaires.

.. and there are a TON of parts 'misrepresented' to be '69 Z28' parts... on ebay.   Let the Buyer Beware!!  If you do a search for '69 Z28 original used parts'..  you get parts for Fords, GM back to 1928, etc..  :)  *Everyone puts '69 Z28' in as one of their keywords, regardless of what the part is for...

My 67 says AAc on the lower left front. Is there a way to post pics from my I phone on the site? I find markings and letters on my car and think it is original parts but not sure. I think my front license plate screws are original also.

When I joined ebay in 1999 it was really easy to find what you wanted to a specific vehicle. Now it seems there is so much trash stuff it takes hours to weed through it all. 1969 Camaro or 69 Camaro is all anyone would need to put in search and that was that. Heck, there are probably more auctions for the little gas and oil signs than anything else. I hate it. Ebay needs more filtering.

As far as I know that bracket was only used on 68/69 Z/28 set ups as the small block cast iron intake used a different set up. Agree about the Z/28 stuff but some things are unique and when they are they often bring a preminum price tag.

Gary,

Do you think it was a reproduction font stamping? The stamping looked the same as the ones I posted.
