Z-28 fender emblems.
« on: March 25, 2013, 04:06:16 PM »
If I remove the 2 non stock Z-28 fender emblems will the proper "350" mount in the same holes? Im guessing the Z has a higher tab on the letter Z which makes a 3rd hole that id have to fill in and repaint!

The 350 emblems should fit the holes the same as the Z28 emblems. I think the pre drilled holes are the same for all the emblems.

Sorry, my bad. So the fenders were stamped out with no holes and then were drilled along the way during the assembly process correct? I really need to read the assembly process a little better. I must have missed that. Even the AIM has the hole measurements for the number emblems and the Z28 emblems and they do appear different.

Yes, that's correct - it's noted in the "Chevrolet Sheet Metal Subassembly" section:

<<Chevrolet Assembly - Front Sheet Metal Subassembly
All the color-painted exterior front sheet metal panels, plus the black-primed radiator support, inner fenders, and center grille support and the low-bake painted grille were conveyed to the sheet metal assembly area; all were in "Broadcast" sequence, matching the sequence of bodies on the main assembly line. Option holes for engine emblems, antennas, Vigilite housings, nameplates and moldings were pierced in large hydraulic fender piercing fixtures before the fenders were placed in the assembly fixtures.>>

Thanks John. I have all my proper emblems now and I have most improper "Z" tags removed so I can see how they all line up now. I was trying to get the info before I ordered anything and the nice folks at "Ground Up' took the time to get old Z emblems and match the holes up to the SS emblems for me before I ordered them. I give them a big "A" for customer service and an "A" to you guys on the forum for all your help so far. I know when I get to the cut off emergency brake cables Ill be asking Q"s for the the usual missing info in the assembly book!

Here is a thread I did on Team Camaro. I swapped from standard to Z/28 emblems.
