1969 SS/RS 396 need pics of core support area
« on: March 17, 2013, 04:18:20 AM »
Have searched with no luck. I own a 1969 SS/RS 396 (born with options)12B,if that matters. In the Z22 section the AIM shows hose routing down each side of Rad. opening on front of core support it also shows headlight bumper brkts. mounted on core. Are these holes drilled? Do they have to be added? Need location and measurements (exact) for all these. I do not see where they would go on my support(it is a GM NOS)Also, need pic of voltage reg-horn relay mounting on backside. My car sustained front damage before I acquired car. I believe core support was replaced (as well as header, hood anf L.fender). It is missing the H.L.bumpers on core and the hoses just have the plastic tie wraps (original) hanging down in front of core. I suspect the horn relay is mounted wrong as well, compared to my other 2 69's I have, but they are not RS equipped cars. So,please help me with pics and info before it gets painted. Car is completely dis-assembled now for paint and body work. Thanks,Bentley.

I will see if I can get you some of this info. off my 12B Car, but my car is not an RS so I am not sure this will even help?  I have a buddy within my state who I can check with.

Isn't the AIM pretty correct?

I'll study my AIM again, but there is nothing shown in the RS section for mounting horn relay or reg.and since washer bottle is moved I don't know. The horn relay is mounted to the Left of reg. Instead of underneath like others non-RS. Just want to get it right when I put it back together. I think I found holes on core for hoses and bumper brkts for RS after looking at AIM and comparing again.

In hopes it might help you, attached is the photo of my VR and HR mounted to the Rad Core Spt before disassembly of my '69 Z28/RS.

Thank you 69Z/28-RS. According to your pic. , mounting is like my other 2 69's. I am now assuming all configurations, regardless of options, have HR and VR mounted the same. My BB RS had the HR mounted to Left of VR, not below VR. Like I said in my starting post, I suspected Core was replaced and perhaps some details were incorrect when put back together. Thanks again, Bentley.

I compared my core support to a NOS and there were lots of minor differences, including these RS bumper brackets. But mine is not available for pics right now.....

Currently, my original RS core support is out of my car and I have an 'old' NOS one to compare it to, as well as an  AMD reproduction (which is pretty good as repros go, but which does have a couple of small differences).   The AMD is boxed back up (hopefully for selling to someone), and my plan is to clean and paint the NOS one and my original one (and replace the rusted bracket under the battery) before deciding whether to use the original or the NOS.  I haven't thus far noticed any differences between my original one and the NOS one, but if someone has specific questions?  Or if Ko Lec Tor can send some photos of the area he's interested in?  I would be glad to make photos..?
