Older washer bottles

Would there be a problem if I put an old washer bottle in a bleach water solution to take away some of the stain and yellowing? I remember my mom  doing this to clean some of her kitchen stuff like tupperware and the like when it got stained. also, has anyone ever replaced the screen on the filter? Mine is toast and laying in the bottom of the bottle.

Hey give it a try but I tried bleach before and it did little if anything on our washer bottle. Keep in mind older service replacements are exactly like the originals (I could not find a thing different but my service replacement was obtained in the 80's). Not sure how newer service replacements are compared to originals. I think the original screens were brass so you might want to make one.

You could try white vinegar in the place of bleach.  If the stain and yellowing is on the inside of the bottle, pour in a handful of builders sand with your cleaning solution and shake it to "scrub" the inisde.

Thanks guys. I was just curious if anyone had done the bleach thing before. Might try the white vinegar/water solution first and see what happens. I hear vinegar helps in a lot of ways. Not actually looking for a pure white bottle, my car is an unrestored driver so I want to keep some patina. How about removing paint over spray? Any ideas here? Paint thinner will desolve the plastic I'm sure.

Is the over spray on the bottle? If so try some rubbing compound.

Yeah, it's all over the top part almost covering the whole square including the cap. Not real heavy though. Is comet cleanser too abrasive or maybe something softer?

Try toothpaste or some other plastic cleaner/polish similar to what's used for headlight covers.  I have a tube of toothpaste with my car cleaners. I also use Novus plastic poliish products and confident they would remove but try the toothpaste first as its CHEAP.

I'd really like to know if the toothpaste works on the paint. Please let us know your results.
You really don't want to scrub the plastic hard on the outside or you'll scratch it.
