V0226DZ
« on: February 24, 2013, 03:50:39 PM »
Next w/e, I'm going to look at a rebuilt V0226DZ motor that a friend of mine call me about..He has decided to change direction on his 69 Z28 project, so I want to confirm the motor best that I can and that its not a restamp.  If you are looking for a build date or close to this build date, please PM me and I will let you know what I find out after looking at this motor.

I know the first gen. Camaro parts shop that this motor came from, and the guy has very good reputation in what he sells as being original or will tell you so up front....Again, I'm not looking to sell it just to see if I can find it a home should someone be looking for a motor close to this date stamp.

Ed or Kirk, please feel free to remove this post if this is not allowed.

Eddie, check for the vin stamping and note what is visible or not, and then post on the CRG orphans list. Maybe it could find its correct home. In 2008 I found the 69Z that was born with a DZ motor that was in our Corvette since 1979. You never know!

That's what I plan to do..I have tried to tell the guy where to look for the partial Vin. number but he's not will to put a lot of time into confirming the number or block casting since he just wants to get rid of the motor..One would think, he would be motivated to look at this, since there's not a lot of local people looking for 302 motors. To find the original owner would make the motor more valuable. But it seems that what he wants me to do for him.

I finally sold a 383  motor, built with an 010 block after sitting on it for two years.  It was a 10:01 - roller motor, but no one seemed to want a to buy a motor without knowing the HP before hand. I finally made a long time friend of mine a deal on it just to get it out of my garage.

Kurt, here is the info on the motor..The pictures I took did not turn out so well..Here is what I found out off the block and heads.

The block is a 3956618
Production date A 14 9.
The heads are 393927186 B 17 8
And the intake is correct as well.

Here are a few pictures..

So well??? I can't understand why you would even take the time to post most of those. I never could understand why some people just CAN'T take a close-up picture. Just keep taking 50 or 60 of them, until it comes out nice and clear. No offense meant all all. It's just so frustration for me when I see pictrures all blurry like this. The engine is on the ground... this is not an action shot... It's not that tough... Geez .... Danny

Some folks aren't aware of the "macro" close-up feature on their cameras - just press the little "flower" symbol, and you'll get very nice, focused close-ups.

And if it's still blurry with the macro setting, just back off a little bit. Easy to crop the picture later....

Danny, I'm going, I agree with you..But your comment " No offense meant at all" REALLY!!!  How is your response not meant to be critical or offensive..Your abrasive commentary is not the best way to get your point across. In fact, its sometimes best to just keep ones comments or opinions to yourself when you disagree with how something is done.

I posted what I wanted to, and you can do the same the next time you post information.  Kurt or one of the MOD's, please feel free to delete this respone if it crosses the line, but some people on this site just want to find fault with everything that others do without constructive input as you and John added to make sure this is done better the next time.

John and Kurt, thanks for the tip on the "Flower setting" for close up photos/  I just tried it and it worked very well. I plan on going back and getting some better photos if I have time this weekend..

The other big variable in close-up shots is lighting.
If you use the flash, you can get some nasty flash bounce sometimes. Then you'll need to not shoot it straight-on. Farther away sometimes helps minimize the distortion of being off-angle. Or use other lighting so you don't need the flash.

On lots of other forums this would already be a war of words, so nice job of keeping it civil.
But let's not let this spiral down further. Keep it constructive.
Why I, and lots of others, like this forum is the lack of attacks.

Sorry about that... Now that I re-read my post I guess I was a little harsh. I was also very ill at the time with stomach cramps and fever for 32 hours. Not an excuse, just makes it easier to critizize when you're not feeling well. You know what I mean... My record is pretty good here for a semi-newbie. I'll try to stay with it..... Danny

We're good and thanks for the response..

The guys ask me what I though the long block should be worth. Any thoughts or comments as to what this motor would be worth. Without the dist, carb, manifolds, or the balancer.  I'm thinking $4,000 to $4,500. How for off am I...?

For the original car a steal but for just adding a DZ too high IMHO. I'm thinking $3500 tops and I would not pay that but some do.

Eddie you can look at price like it was just another engine because it's not original to the car.. I'm not saying the DZ is worth nothing but it's only a minimal premium.  Maybe $250 to $500 for the stamp then what he has in it with parts and labor.
