346 67-68 master cylinder cover
« on: December 22, 2012, 02:00:37 PM »
Anybody tell me what the orginal assembly line 346 master cylinder cover WORDING was in 67 and 68  on Z/28 cars? All the repos are the same for 67-69. They made a couple of different covers in 69 with different wording but I don't know what is correct for 67 and 68. Thanks and Happy Holidays

Thanks Jerry,
Thats the one I had for my 6D 68 Z/28. Now I know its correct. When you have time is there a date on your 346 master cylinder? I found one on my 69 Z/28 309 master but not one on  the 346. Mine has D1 or D2 on the side.  Have a Merry Christmas.   Thanks again, Gary

The "D1" or "D2" aren't dates - those are foundry pattern numbers from the Danville Foundry, which produced most of the master cylinder castings for Delco-Moraine.

Gary,

FWIW, both my 67's (4B & 5B) still retain their original 346 'WT' master cylinders and neither have date codes on them.
Also, Long Island Corvettes has the correct reproduction covers with the vents and wording (P/N 52-18N).
They also sell the correct steel bale wire for a lot less than others Camaro suppliers.

Merry Christmas,
Mike

Mike is correct.  My "WT" master cylinder does not have a date also.  Just the "WT" letters on the front small machined surface

You may or may not find a julian date code stamped into the machined boss on the front outlet. Seems 68's only had them sporadically.

the 1969 'US' stamped master cylinders had a date code (julian) cast into the side of the MC opposite the PN.  I'd be surprised if all the D-R MC weren't similarly cast.

I have two original 346 Master Cylinders with the "WT" stamping. None have a Julian Date Code.

- The first MC has the backwards casted 346 part number and it has the SAE J1703 Lid

- The second one has the normal casted part number and has the same lid pictured above.

I'm assuming the backward 346 MC with the J1703 lid is for a verly late 68 Z28
